MEXICO CITY (AP) A FIFA executive says funding to the scandal-hit North American soccer confederation is being unfrozen.

FIFA halted payments to CONCACAF as well as the South American body CONMEBOL while seeking greater assurances about how money was being spent in the confederations.

Now Fernando Sarney, a FIFA Council member from Brazil, says the governing body has agreed to release CONCACAF’s $10 million.

As he arrived at the second day of the FIFA Council meeting in Mexico City, Sarney said “CONCACAF is already unfrozen.”

Sarney added that FIFA is going to Paraguay-based CONMEBOL to audit their finances “for the next 15 days to do the same thing” before releasing their $10 million.

Six recent presidents of CONCACAF or CONMEBOL have been indicted on corruption charges in the United States.
