Jay Rodriguez’s career arc has been pretty darn frustrating for the Southampton striker.
The English attacker, 26, nearly made the World Cup after scoring 15 goals for Saints in 2013-14 before an ACL injury cost him a full season on the sidelines.

Finally returning this season, Rodriguez played in 12 matches for Saints to start the year. He netted once in the Europa League qualifiers and twice in the League Cup before suffering an ankle injury that cost him another long spell away from the pitch.
Now, with Saints again contending for a place in a European competition, Rodriguez has hit the pitch again. Playing for Southampton’s U-21 side, Rodriguez scored three goals in a 5-0 Sunday walloping of Liverpool’s U-21s.
So, yeah, it was a good weekend for Saints (and not just Patrick).
