The game in 100 words (or less): Sporting Kansas City nearly set a few MLS records on Sunday — some good, and some … not so good (more on that below) — ultimately failing to do so, though Peter Vermes’ side will take their 2-1 victory over Orlando City SC and the end to their seven-game winless streak that comes with it. As it turned out, their pure domination — in the form of 34 total shots (13 on target - compared to 7 and 0 for Orlando) — fell four short of tying the all-time record for most in a game. They’ll settle for being the first team since 1998 to attempt 32 shots in a single game instead. The victory pushes Sporting KC level on points (17) with sixth-place (Western Conference) Real Salt Lake who hold the final playoff spot for the time being on goal differential, and have played three fewer games. Orlando (11 points), meanwhile, fall to seventh in the Eastern Conference.
