Two teams vying for top three finishes both picked up valuable wins on a light day in Serie A action.
With just two games in play, Roma took down Empoli on the road 3-1 thanks to a brace from Stephan El Shaarawy, including a wonder goal in the sixth minute that set the tone. The 23-year-old, needing a strong performance to maybe save his career, has been sensational since returning to Roma with four goals in five games, and he had his best performance yet on Saturday.
The win gave Roma three points to push them into third, five points back of Juventus at the top and four behind Napoli in second. Both play tomorrow.
Also, AC Milan topped Torino at home 1-0 on a goal from Luca Antonelli just before halftime. The goal came off a corner, and in the scrum Antonelli poked it home. With the points, Milan moves one behind Inter Milan and six back of the top three.
