According to an Associated Press report, construction officials say the roof of the Itaquerao in Sao Paulo will not be ready in time for the 2014 World Cup opener.
Officials say there is not enough time to install glass paneling on the proposed roof of the stadium, also known as the Arena Corinthians. The company in charge said the missing panels will not affect fans in the stadium.
The report says the rest of the project will be completed after the World Cup is over. The construction site in Sao Paulo has been one of the most troubled of all the 12 stadiums either new or receiving an overhaul. In November, they suffered an accident when a crane collapsed that resulted in the death of two workers.
Just yesterday, a report in the Daily Mirror revealed that prosecutors in Brazil are considering attempts to shut down the construction site altogether due to unsafe working conditions, with a section of 20,000 temporary seats the primary area of concern.
However, today the company in charge of installing those temporary seats claimed to have resolved all safety issues in the area.
Brazil and Croatia are scheduled to play the opening match at the Itaquerao on June 12 at 5:00 local time.
