USWNT win CONCACAF title after routing Costa Rica in final

After already securing a place in the Women’s World Cup in Canada next summer, the USWNT trounced Costa Rica 6-0 on Sunday to win the CONCACAF Championship which doubled-up as the World Cup qualifying tournament.

At PPL Park in Chester, Pa. the U.S. national team’s all-time leading goalscorer Abby Wambach scored four times to lead here side to a 6-0 win over Los Ticos.

Carli Lloyd and Sydney Leroux added more gloss to the scoreline, as the USA secured their fifth CONCACAF title as they rolled past continental opposition on home soil with ease.

The USA will be joined by Costa Rica and Mexico in the World Cup in Canada next summer, while Trinidad and Tobago have a two-leg series against Ecuador next month to try and complete their Cinderella story after severe financial issues almost hampered their inclusion in the tournament.

As for the USWNT, they remain in ominous form ahead of the World Cup and Wambach is now the national team’s all-time leading scorer in World Cup qualifying with 18 goals.

After going through the entire CONCACAF tournament undefeated, the U.S> will be hoping this clean sweep builds momentum between now and next June.
