Landon Donovan caused a minor stir on Tuesday night when he celebrated Abby Wambach’s role in the USWNT’s run to the World Cup final with a Tweet some perceived as a shot at USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Donovan, of course, was left off the World Cup roster last summer by Klinsmann, much to the chagrin of many U.S. fans.

So you can see why many thought this Tweet from the USMNT’s legendary scorer caused some to raise their eyebrows (if not furrow their brows altogether).

Love the enthusiasm and veteran presence of @AbbyWambach despite not playing much. That kind of leadership is priceless during a WC

Donovan joined The Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday to talk USWNT, but also to clear the air in a sense, saying he knew right after Tweeting it that people might take it the wrong way.
