Being short on defenders is not an item on the checklist for “Things to do to win at Manchester City”, but that hasn’t stopped John Carver’s enthusiasm for this Saturday’s 12:30pm ET match on NBC.

With outside backs on loan to Roma and Inter Milan and injuries to Paul Dummett and Steven Taylor, Carver will go into the match with a lack of depth for Wilfried Bony and Yaya Youre.

But Carver’s not all-that-worried, because he’s watched his side do the trick at the Etihad in the League Cup against a “going for it” City side.

“We went there, played in the League Cup, won 2-0. It wasn’t a freak result. We played really well that night against a strong Man City side. We do know they’ve got a big Champions League game coming up on Tuesday against Barcelona... We’re going there knowing that we’re playing against a good side, but we’re not going to be fearful.”
