Vaughn Dalzell breaks down how to bet the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest between Mac McClung, Jericho Sims, Kenyon Martin and Trey Murphy.

NBA Slam Dunk Contest

Mac McClung (+150), Jericho Sims (+280), Kenyon Martin (+290), Trey Murphy (+380)

The Slam Dunk contest is dwindling down and we have an array of bench players, short-term starters and up and coming G-Leaguers making an appearance in the Slam Dunk Contest this season.

The best story of this dunk contest is Kenyon Martin Jr. who plays for the Rockets like his father did. Martin Sr. is a former No. 1 overall pick in 2000. However, I will not let that influence my decision because I think the shortest player in this field has the best chance to win this and so do the sports books.

Mac McClung is only 6-foot-2 but his ability to get up should keep the crowd engaged. He doesn’t have much NBA experience but you don’t need that in this contest. Compared to Sims or Murphy, I really like McClung’s chances to advance versus Martin.

Centers are not usually a sharp or profitable pick in the dunk contest, so I will have to pass on Jericho Sims, who was a favorite for a short period of time and now is either second or third to win the contest.

For Trey Murphy, I don’t know if his 6-foot-10 frame and athleticism will match McClung’s hops or Martin’s power/finesse, so I see a final between McClung and Martin.

Forced to pick a winner, I think the line movement towards McClung is true and his height will actually work to his advantage in the Dunk Contest.

Pick: Mac McClung (+150)
