Big 12 leaping headfirst into 21st Century

Back in the middle of March, the SEC announced plans to have HD monitors installed in their replay booths. A month later, the Big Ten made the same move.

Now, yet another BcS conference has announced plans to install this new-fangled, virgin technology that’s only been around since the mid-nineties.

According to the Topeka Capital-Journal, the Big 12 will install high-definition monitors in their replay booths. The technology will be in place at all conference schools in time for the 2010 season.

Commissioner Don Beebe seemed rather proud of this development, rather than being embarrassed by the fact that it took him and his BcS conference counterparts this long to take advantage of technology that’s been available for 15 years..

Better late than never, I guess.

“Big 12 football is paving the way for a new generation of officiating,” Beebe said in a statement. “As one of the first to implement the XOS HD Replay system, our conference is leading the advancement of the emerging HD trend for officiating.

“This strategic investment demonstrates our level of commitment toward providing our member schools with the most technologically advanced resources.”
