Fox Sports president says possible Big 12 expansion isn’t a good idea

The Big 12 may or may not announce it’s expanding this evening, but count one of the most important and influential figures in this whole process in the “no expansion” corner.

That would be Fox Sports president Eric Shanks, who told the Sports Business Journal that “We don’t think expansion in the Big 12 is a good idea for the conference.” (Read his full quote here)

Shanks’ argument is that the Big 12 expanding from 10 to 12 teams would “dilute” the product. BYU, Houston and Cincinnati seem to have emerged as the frontrunners to be added to the conference if expansion were to happen, though Shanks points out that talk of adding teams to the conference as “cooled off” lately.

But the Big 12 remains unpredictable, so 6:30 p.m. E.T. could provide us with something totally predictable or totally unexpected:
