GT’s Attaochu hit with half-game suspension

Georgia Tech’s Jeremiah Attaochu missed two games last month due to injury, and now the outstanding pass-rushing linebacker miss another half game due for unnecessary pugilism in the Yellow Jackets’ loss Saturday.

The school announced in a press release Monday evening that Attaochu will be suspended for the first half of the Duke game this Saturday, “the result of Attaoachu’s actions in the game against Virginia Tech” the release stated. Those actions GT referred to consisted mainly of one action: taking a swing at Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas.

After the game, Attaochu blamed an “overdose of adrenaline” for an incident for which he said there was no excuse.

“I knew I was going too hard,” Attaochu said. “I’m a high-energy player. I was just going so hard. When I made contact with him, I was just mad he wouldn’t go down, so I kept trying to hack the ball.”

Instead, Attaochu connected with Thomas’ head and, as a result, will take a seat for the first two quarters this weekend.

Despite missing a pair of games with a lower-leg injury, Attaochu still leads Tech with five sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss.
