When Auburn kicks off its spring practice in a couple of months, Gus Malzahn might want to consider encasing his backfield in bubble wrap.
Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, al.com‘s Brandon Marcello reported that Kerryon Johnson underwent surgery recently to repair his damaged shoulder. As a result, the running back is expected to “miss the bulk of spring practice.”
With Johnson’s health issue and 2015 leading rusher Peyton Barber, to the surprise of many, leaving early for the NFL, the Tigers will have three healthy backs entering the spring: second-leading rusher Jovon Robinson (639 yards), third-leading rusher Roc Thomas (261) and three-star 2016 early enrollee Malik Miller.
Last season, Johnson was fourth on the team with 208 yards and tied for third with three rushing touchdowns.
