Trial date for FSU RB Dalvin Cook set for Aug. 24

It appears that, one way or the other, the Dalvin Cook situation will be resolved before the start of the 2015 season.

Earlier this week, the attorneys for the Florida State running back filed a demand for a speedy trial on behalf of their client. Wednesday, those demands were met as a Leon County (Fla.) judge approved the motion and set a trial date for Aug. 24, with jury selection taking place Aug. 21.

The initial court date had been set for Sept. 2, three days before FSU opens the 2015 season against Texas State.

Cook is facing a misdemeanor battery charge after allegedly punching a woman in the face at a Tallahassee bar this past June. Cook, who remains indefinitely suspended pending the outcome of the case, has denied any wrongdoing, and his attorneys have very publicly stated that they will not accept a plea deal to resolve the case.

After leading the Seminoles in rushing as a true freshman last season, Cook narrowly missed out being voted onto the media’s preseason All-ACC team -- he was just vote behind first-team Shadrach Thornton of North Carolina State.
