Eric Lauer tossed six scoreless innings and got the win in the Dodgers’ 2-1 victory over the Twins on Monday.

Lauer gave up no hits, walked three and struck out two. He entered in the second inning as the bulk reliever after Will Klein pitched the first inning. Lauer was excellent, keeping the Twins off the scoreboard and out of the hit column for six innings. He has a 4.87 ERA. Lauer isn’t scheduled to pitch again until next week.

Lauer left with a three-run lead that held up until the ninth, when Tanner Scott had a rare off night. It’s the third time in four outings that Scott has allowed three runs in exactly six innings. He pitched no-hit ball for six innings in the other game during the span. Lauer isn’t slated to make another start before the break, but he could factor into Sunday’s game behind Emmet Sheehan.

It was a surprise that the Dodgers felt the need to add Lauer last month after a miserable start to his season in Toronto, but he’s more than justified their faith in going 3-0 with a 3.88 ERA in six outings. He’s given up six homers and nine walks in 34 1/3 innings for the Dodgers. He allowed 11 homers and 16 walks while amassing a 6.69 ERA in 36 1/3 innings before the Jays cut him. Lauer figures to start again Sunday versus the Padres.

Will Klein gets the ball as an opener for Los Angeles before turning things over to Lauer for a bulk outing. The 31-year-old lefty has delivered a respectable 3.22 ERA and 14/5 K/BB ratio across 22 1/3 innings since being acquired from the Blue Jays last month.

Everyone would rather see River Ryan making these starts for the Dodgers, but the team is now to 4-0 in Lauer’s outings, even though Lauer has just one win during the span. He’s posted a 3.22 ERA and a 14/5 K/BB in 22 1/3 innings since being acquired from the Blue Jays. Most likely, he’ll stay in the rotation and face the Twins next Monday.

After surrendering back-to-back home runs in the opening inning, Lauer settled into a comfortable rhythm, retiring 15 of the final 16 batters he faced. He struck out five and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 31-year-old southpaw was long gone by the time Los Angeles erupted for 10 runs in the seventh inning to pull away for an easy win. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in all three of his starts since joining the Dodgers’ rotation back on May 26. He’ll face the Rays in a home matchup on Monday.

Lauer kept the Diamondbacks off the board through two innings before giving up a solo homer to Corbin Carroll in the third. He allowed the first two runners to reach in the fifth, then gave up a run on a sacrifice fly. Lauer struck out the next batter and was replaced on the mound at 70 pitches, falling one out short of qualifying for a win. He scattered five hits and one walk while striking out just one. The 31-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 5.74 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and a 31/18 K/BB ratio across 47 innings. But Tuesday’s start makes it three runs over 10 2/3 innings with the Dodgers. Lauer lines up for a start against the Pirates in Pittsburgh next Tuesday.

Lauer, making his first start with the Dodgers, tossed a clean first inning before giving up a solo homer to Hunter Goodman in the second. He went on to scatter three more hits and one walk over four more scoreless innings, going a season-high six frames in his Dodgers debut while collecting four strikeouts. He’ll make for a risky deep-league streamer with win potential when he takes on the Diamondbacks in Arizona next Tuesday.

Lauer is available to pitch out of the bullpen this week after being plucked off waivers from the Blue Jays over the weekend. He’ll jump into Los Angeles’ rotation at some point next week as a replacement for Blake Snell, who underwent NanoScope surgery on his left elbow this week. The 30-year-old lefty is a non-factor fantasy-wise but his arrival means intriguing pitching prospect River Ryan will remain in Triple-A.

Lauer will slot into the Dodgers’ six-man rotation after being acquired from the Blue Jays in a trade over the weekend. The 30-year-old lefty struggled to a bloated 6.69 ERA across 36 1/3 innings for Toronto earlier this season. He’s unlikely to carry any semblance of fantasy value unless Los Angeles’ pitching apparatus is able to unlock something to get him back on track. It’s a noteworthy development since he’ll take over Blake Snell’s rotation spot with prospect River Ryan likely staying in the minors.

The Blue Jays won’t really get anything here, other than saving the Dodgers’ portion of the major league minimum. Lauer, who was designated for assignment on Monday, is expected to join the Dodgers rotation after one or two appearances out of the pen. He had a 6.69 ERA in 36 1/3 innings for Toronto.

MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo believes Brooks Raley and A.J. Minter are “as good as out the door.”

Both left-handers can become free agents at the end of the season, and the Mets aren’t close to the playoffs. We may not see a huge sell-off from the Mets while they look to compete again in 2027, but pending free agents should definitely be on the radar.

MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy believes the Brewers are “going to require some creativity in the coming months” around Jacob Misiorowski’s workload.

The Brewers, at 59-37, are in no jeopardy of losing a playoff spot at this point. Misiorowski is already within 31 innings of his total from last year in the minors, majors and postseason. We don’t want to read too much into this — all we know for sure is that Misiorowski isn’t expected to start in the first series after the break, but it’s definitely possible that Misiorowski is managed carefully down the stretch of the season and has lower pitch and inning limits ahead of the postseason. McCalvy writes that Misiorowski is expected to have “an extended breather over the All-Star break and into the second half.” We knew about the All-Star break, but it’s worth noting that based on that quote he may miss some time early in the second half of the season as well.

Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto said the Mariners are “definitely going to look to help the bullpen” at the trade deadline.

Dipoto mentioned that Gabe Speier, Matt Brash and Cooper Criswell being hurt has left the Mariners “operating short for quite a while now.” He also said the market is slow-to-develop. The Mariners seem like they have a surplus of starting pitching to deal from if they need to make a deal. In contrast to the bullpen situation, Dipoto said the Mariners hitters just need to “do the things that they have historically done.”

Brendan Donovan (groin) began his rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Wednesday.

Donovan batted leadoff and was the designated hitter. He’s been on the injured list with a strained groin since May 17th, so Donovan will likely need a few weeks of games before he’s back up in Seattle. How the playing time shakes out now that Cole Young and Colt Emerson are both up will be the other question that needs to be answered.

The A’s are promoting Tommy White to the majors, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

This suggests the A’s aren’t expecting Nick Kurtz back in the near future. White, 23, was the Athletics’ second round pick in 2024. The corner infielder was hitting .303/.345/.489 in 55 games since moving up to Triple-A Las Vegas, but while that sounds pretty good, it’s just average considering the environment. For instance, Joey Meneses and Brian Serven, both of whom were sent down by the A’s today, had about 100 points of OPS on him. Henry Bolte’s OPS before his callup was 1.076. White will likely play mostly first for now. Once Kurtz is back, he could move to third, depending on how he’s performing. He’s probably not going to amass mixed-league value initially.

Scott Blewett is opting out of his minor league deal with the Cardinals, according to Derrick Goold of the Post-Dispatch.

The Cardinals will have 48 hours to add Blewett to their 40-man or make him a free agent. Blewett showed off a nice little velocity boost this spring, but it wasn’t enough to win a bullpen job, and he has a 5.18 ERA for Triple-A Memphis in spite of a nice 63/19 K/BB in 48 2/3 innings.

Athletics recalled LHP Brady Basso from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Basso is back for a third stint in the pen after giving up six runs over 4 1/3 innings in the first two. He’s been throwing his Barry Zito-like curveball a less of late, instead focusing on his cutter to go along with his four-seamer. It doesn’t really seem to have paid off, as he was sporting a 5.11 ERA in Triple-A. He’ll need to take a step forward here in the second half if he wants to stick on the 40-man this winter.

Athletics optioned RHP Mason Barnett to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Barnett had a couple of saves for the A’s last month, but he’d given up nine runs in six innings since July started, taking his ERA from 1.17 to 4.64. He was a starter in Triple-A before being called up, but given that we’re in the second half, it might make sense to keep him in the pen for now and see if he can resume being of use there later.

Athletics optioned 1B Joey Meneses to Triple-A Las Vegas.

The A’s demoted Meneses and Brian Serven from the position player side. Donovan Walton, who was just claimed off waivers from the Angels, is taking one spot. The other spot has yet to be filled, but it’ll probably be a callup (Darrell Hernaiz?), since it doesn’t sound like any of the team’s injured position players are ready to be activated. Meneses is 3-for-20 with three walks in his nine games with the A’s this year.

Athletics optioned C Brian Serven to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Serven has served two brief stints with the A’s this month, going 1-for-4 in two appearances. He’ll head back to Triple-A and continue to serve as insurance in case Shea Langeliers or Jonah Heim gets hurt.
