Luis Robert Jr. (back) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Syracuse.

Robert has been on the shelf with a herniated disc in his back since late April. The 28-year-old center fielder’s impending return will complicate New York’s outfield mix, especially since rookie A.J. Ewing has been tearing the cover off the ball recently. The logical move would be to allow Juan Soto to get some extra time at DH with Ewing and fellow rookie Carson Benge in the outfield corners once he’s back. He’ll likely require at least a week or two of minor league at-bats to get back up to speed following the lengthy layoff. The durability concerns aren’t going away, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Robert were an impactful fantasy contributor during the second half based on his raw talent and track record.

Soto is now up to 21 home runs and 50 RBI in 75 games on the season. There are many reasons for the Mets’ struggles this season, but Soto is not one of them.

Carson Benge went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in a win over the Royals on Sunday.

Benge continues his solid rookie season. He came into today hitting .302/.362/.444 over his last 15 games with two home runs and seven runs scored. He’s now up to 13 steals on the year and has been one of the few bright spots for the Mets this season.

A.J. Ewing went 2-for-5 with a long home run and double in a 6-2 win over the Royals on Wednesday.

Ewing set the tone as the lead-off hitter in this one with a 420 foot shot on the third pitch of the game. It was nice to see him lay off two fastballs outside the zone before unleashing a huge swing for his second home run in as many days. He’s also now hit five homers in the last two weeks and two of those were hit at least 420 feet. That’s not too bad for a player who’s still just 21 years old and was meant to not have much power. He’s officially been installed as the Mets’ lead-off hitter against right-handed pitching and now has seven home runs, nine stolen bases, and a .279 batting average since being called-up in mid-May.

A.J. Ewing finished 4-for-4 with a homer, three RBI, a walk, a steal and four runs scored in the loss to the Royals on Tuesday.

What more can a guy do? It’s his first four-hit, four-run scored or three-RBI game as a major leaguer, and it was enough to take his OPS from .742 to .790. Ewing will probably do a lot of sitting against lefties after Luis Robert Jr. returns, but he deserves to stay in the lineup against righties, and the Mets outfield defense would be pretty formidable with him playing alongside Robert and Carson Benge on days that Juan Soto serves as a DH.

Carson Benge went 2-for-3 with two walks, a steal and two runs scored Tuesday against the Royals.

Benge’s first hit, which opened the scoring in the first, was the most Little League of Little League home runs. Seth Lugo handled the grounder to the right of the mound but then threw wildly past first, after which first baseman Jac Caglianone threw wildly past third and third baseman Nick Loftin threw wildly past home, allowing two baserunners and Benge to all score. They should have just ended the game right then, but the Royals shook off probably the most embarrassing sequence of the 2026 season and ended up winning 16-12.

Juan Soto hit a go-ahead homer in the ninth as the Mets edged the Braves 7-6 in 10 innings on Monday.

Soto’s three-run homer off Raisel Iglesias gave the Mets a 5-3 lead that failed to hold up initially, as Matt Olson responded with a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning. However, the Mets did prevail in 10, with Luis Torrens connecting on a go-ahead double off the bench. Soto had three walks to go along with his 19th homer tonight. He also collected his seventh steal.

A.J. Ewing is in the leadoff spot for Monday’s contest against the Braves.

Ewing homered off Atlanta lefty Martín Pérez on Sunday and moves up to the leadoff spot for the second time in the last three games. The 21-year-old rookie has put together a solid stretch in recent weeks, hitting .293 (29-for-99) with four homers, 14 RBI and four steals over his last 30 games. He’s going to be more impactful as a stolen base source than any other fantasy category, but he does offer some over-the-fence pop, which gives him more appeal than the typical speed-oriented waiver wire options out there.

A.J. Ewing went 2-for-4 and homered versus the Braves on Sunday.

After sitting against a lefty on Saturday, Ewing started versus Martín Pérez today and took him deep for his fifth major league homer. He’s hitting .222/.280/.444 in 45 at-bats against lefties, compared to .281/.370/.391 in 121 at-bats versus righties. He batted seventh today, but he’ll likely be in the leadoff spot against right-hander Reynaldo López on Monday.

Juan Soto was named as one of the starters for the National League All-Star team.

Unsurprisingly, Soto was voted into the starting group even with the Mets having a disappointing 2026 campaign. He’ll be joined in the outfield by Andy Pages and Brandon Marsh. The infield will include 3B Max Muncy, SS CJ Abrams, 2B Ozzie Albies and 1B Freddie Freeman, with Drake Baldwin elected the starting catcher and Shohei Ohtani the designated hitter.

Juan Soto went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk on Friday against the Braves.

Soto drove the Mets offense in this one. His two-run homer – that looked like a cue-shot off the bat – stood as their only run until the ninth inning when Soto singled just before Bo Bichette drove in their third and final run in a late rally that fell short. He also had a demonstrative challenge of a called third strike that was overturned and turned into a walk. He’s had a fantastic season with 18 home runs and a .971 OPS through 69 games despite the Mets’ struggles.

Ivan Herrera was added to the National League All-Star team as an injury replacement for Dodgers’ superstar Shohei Ohtani.

It’s the first trip to the Mid-Summer Classic for the 26-year-old backstop. Herrera has had a solid first half at the plate, slashing .249/.384/.395 with 11 long balls, 40 RBI and a 68/51 K/BB ratio over 411 plate appearances.

Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday that Shohei Ohtani will have his left knee drained on Sunday.

He still didn’t give any sort of timeline on how long Ohtani will be held off of the mound for, but he did note that if this were September that Ohtani would still be pitching. Take that for what it’s worth. It sounds like he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list altogether, though it seems likely that he’ll miss at least a couple of trips through the Dodgers’ rotation.

The 25-year-old right-hander was away from the team for the first half of the week. He returns to a terrific 3.33 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 46/21 K/BB ratio over 46 innings in 43 appearances out of the Jays’ bullpen. He has also tallied three victories and a save on the year.

That’s noteworthy, as it’s the second time in four games this week that Moniak has suited up against a southpaw, though he has hit near the bottom of the lineup in both of those games. Still, fantasy managers have to be thrilled to see him starting to see the field against left-handers to go along with the outstanding production that he has provided against right-handers this season.
