Tobias Myers sent back down to Triple-A

Myers threw 22 pitches over two innings while giving up a pair of runs against the Red Sox on Saturday and was unlikely to be available for Sunday’s first half finale, so the Mets opted to swap him out for a fresh arm. Myers sports a miserable 6.26 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 33/13 K/BB ratio over 46 innings with the Mets this season.

Myers will rejoin the low-leverage reliever mix for the Mets over the weekend. He has a 6.21 ERA in 42 innings and has been as disappointing a part of the Freddy Peralta trade as Freddy Peralta has so far.

The Mets were counting on Myers to provide length out of their bullpen this season, but he has pitched to a 6.21 ERA in 42 innings. His results were much better in nine innings at Triple-A, so the team will hope he can carry that over into his MLB innings.

He’s getting the nod over Tobias Myers, who gave up seven runs in 1 1/3 innings against the Reds on Monday. Peterson last started on May 26, when he surrendered six runs in five innings against the Reds. He has a 5.91 ERA in seven starts and eight relief appearances this season.

Myers gave up four hits, walked three and struck out one. He fell to 0-2 with a 5.71 ERA. Myers was put in a tough spot as he was recalled from Triple-A once Christian Scott (hip) was placed on the IL. Predictably, a road matchup against the Reds on short notice went poorly. Myers was already out of the game when Eugenio Suarez hit the grand slam to make it 9-0 with seven of the runs being Myers’ responsibility. He’s lined up to face the Phillies on the road this weekend, but Myers isn’t a recommended fantasy option at this point.

Myers takes the ball for Monday’s series opener against the Reds in Cincinnati in place of an injured Christian Scott (hip). The 27-year-old has spent the last two weeks stretching out as a traditional starter in the minors after posting a pedestrian 4.05 ERA and 26/7 K/BB ratio across 33 1/3 innings earlier this season. He’s not a recommended streaming option for fantasy managers, especially in a tough ballpark on the road.

Myers has been in the minors since the end of May. The right-hander wasn’t abhorrent prior to that demotion with a 4.05 ERA and 26/7 K/BB, but he’d be a very risky fantasy streamer considering his inability to miss bats and the potential for a shorter outing against Cincinnati on Monday.

Myers will get a chance to reboot and build up as a traditional starter down in the minors with the hope that he’s an option for New York’s rotation in a couple weeks. The 27-year-old has struggled to a 4.05 ERA and 26/7 K/BB ratio across 33 1/3 innings this season. He didn’t end up pitching more than two innings in any outing since May 2.

Holmes suffered a broken leg when he was nailed by a 111-mph line drive from Yankees rookie Spencer Jones during the fourth inning of Friday’s start at Citi Field. Amazingly, he faced seven additional batters prior to exiting the contest when X-rays revealed the fracture in his leg. The unfortunate development is the latest crushing blow to New York’s rotation, and a significant hit for fantasy rotations, since he posted a sparkling 2.39 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 45/18 K/BB ratio across 52 2/3 innings over nine starts to open the year. He’s facing a lengthy absence and figures to miss at least a couple months. There should be a definitive timetable from the Mets at some point soon. Jack Wenninger, Jonah Tong and Tobias Myers are the logical candidates to take his rotation spot. Wenninger, who has posted a 1.08 ERA and 38/18 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings at Triple-A Syracuse this season, and Tong would be the most intriguing fantasy-wise given their strikeout upside.

Peterson left in line for the win today, but that was spoiled in the ninth inning. Maybe because he knew he wouldn’t be expected to throw 90-100 pitches, Peterson’s velocity was up 1-1.5 mph today. He had just one strikeout and one whiff, but he also allowed little hard contact. It’s unclear how the Mets will exactly proceed with Peterson now, but that he’s in line to pitch at home against the Rockies next weekend makes him a streaming possibility.
