Braves designated RHP Tyler Kinley for assignment.

This move was to make room for AJ Smith-Shawver on the active roster, but they didn’t need to clear a spot on their 40-man for such. Kinley has a palatable 4.01 ERA and fastball that can still sit near 95 mph, despite trending in the wrong direction over the last few years. It’s plausible that another team would pick the 35-year-old righty up off waivers.
BOS meets SF, Devers on Sunday Night Baseball

Reds optioned RHP Zach McCambley to Triple-A Louisville.

This is a procedural move after McCambley served as the 27th man on Monday during a double-header against the Cardinals. He tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in his appearance and will likely be part of the Reds’ bullpen shuffle for the rest of the season.

Mets RHP Justin Hagenman (rib) sent to Single-A St. Lucie for a rehab assignment.

Hagenman fractured a rib during spring training and hasn’t appeared in a game at any level yet this season. He had a 4.65 ERA, 23 strikeouts, and just two walks across 23 2/3 innings in a swing-man role with the Mets last season,

Mets activated RHP Austin Warren from the 10-day injured list.

Warren has been out since early July with a right forearm strain. After a strong run early in the season out of their bullpen, he let up nine earned runs in his final two appearances before succumbing to the IL. Before then, he had a 2.45 ERA across 33 innings and could be a candidate to pick up holds within the Mets’ chaotic bullpen.

Mets optioned RHP Chayce McDermott to Triple-A Syracuse.

The Mets acquired McDermott from the Dodgers at the trade deadline for catcher Ben Rortvedt and he’s flashed some stuff in 3 1/3 innings of work split between two outings. Yet, his command was poor as it’s been his whole career evidenced by a 7.9 BB/9 across 18 1/3 big league innings.

Abner Uribe (elbow) will throw a 15-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.

The hope was that Uribe would only need a minimum stay on the injured list after going out with a mild flexor strain last week. Throwing a bullpen only a few days later is a great sign that one of the league’s best setup men will be back soon.

Cooper Pratt (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Tuesday.

This is great news and fits Pratt’s initial timeline to return in August after suffering a mild hamstring strain just under two weeks ago. He was heating up before going out with a .305 batting average and five stolen bases over his last 30 games. Also, funny enough, he’ll begin this rehab assignment on his 22nd birthday.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that Ketel Marte is heading back to Arizona to get an MRI on his knee.

The Ketel Marte saga continues. First it was a disappearance, then a personal issue, and now a potential knee injury. Rather than us getting any answers, this story is only become more muddled as no clear indication has been given as to why Marte didn’t show up to the park for Tuesday’s game and when or if he will be back. Hopefully we get a more definitive update soon, but nothing seems imminent right now.

Braves recalled RHP AJ Smith-Shawver from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Now it’s official. Smith-Shawver will come back up to start for the Braves on Wednesday after he was removed from Triple-A Gwinnett’s probable pitchers earlier today. He’s a splitter-heavy righty with above average velocity who could find success. In his season debut against the Mets, his fastball jumped up two ticks to 97 mph and that velocity held during his two starts back in Triple-A. He’s also mixed in a new sinker against right-handed batters. By slotting in the rotation on Wednesday, he’ll give Chris Sale an extra day of rest.

The Athletics’ Spencer Nusbaum reports that right-hander Josiah Gray (elbow) will start for Single-A Fredericksburg on Tuesday.

This is great news for Gray who hasn’t pitched in a game since September of last season following a litany of arm injuries. Most recently, it was a flexor strain that cropped up in spring training. Once a top prospect who was the centerpiece of the trade that sent Max Scherzer and Trea Turner to the Dodgers, Gray hasn’t pitched in a major league game since April, 2024.
