Yesavage threw just 40 pitches (26 strikes) in his abbreviated return to Toronto’s rotation roughly six weeks after undergoing left knee meniscus surgery. The lone tally against him came on an opposite-field homer by Pete Alonso. He finished with three strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. There’s very little incentive for the Blue Jays to push him from a workload standpoint, regardless of the playoff implications at stake, when he takes the ball against the Reds this weekend to close out the regular season. He’s too important to their future to put his long-term health at risk.

Yesavage, coming back from knee surgery, threw 34 pitches in his rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday. It might be tempting to start him next week in fantasy leagues, but between the zero chances of a win on Monday and the possibility that he’ll be scratched next weekend if the Jays are out of contention, he doesn’t seem like a top option.

Trey Yesavage (knee) could return to the Blue Jays this weekend.

The 23-year-old has been pitching in Triple-A as he works his way back from knee surgery. He threw 34 pitches in a start on Tuesday. He will now throw another bullpen with the team in Texas and is “on track to join the MLB team on maybe Sunday or Monday.” He will obviously not be fully ramped up by then, but the Blue Jays are fighting for the final playoff spot and believe that even 40-50 pitches from Yesavage is an upgrade for them. His command was a major issue before his injury, so it’s hard to trust him in fantasy leagues for the remainder of 2026.

Trey Yesavage (knee) recorded two outs in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

Yesavage didn’t make it out of the opening frame in his first rehab outing, averaging 93.3 mph on his fastball and topped out at 94.4 during the abbreviated 34-pitch start. He allowed two hits and also issued a walk before being lifted for pitch count reasons. He presumably got the rest of his work done out in the bullpen afterwards. The 23-year-old is attempting to make it back in time for Toronto’s postseason run, assuming they make it there, after undergoing knee surgery last month.

Yesavage is making his way back from knee surgery. He made 30 pitches in a simulated game in his last mound session, so the Jays will probably be aiming for him to throw two or three innings in this outing. He’s attempting to make it back for the postseason, if the Blue Jays manage to qualify.

Yesavage is working his way back from last month’s left knee meniscus surgery with the goal of helping Toronto’s potential postseason run. It seems unrealistic that he’ll return before the conclusion of the regular season, especially with only two weeks left on the calendar, but there’s optimism he’ll be ready to take the ball in October. There’s a slight possibility he’ll make it back for the final weekend of the year, but that’s hardly a reason for fantasy managers to stash him. He’s expected to make a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo in the coming days.

Yesavage, who threw a 34-pitch bullpen session in Florida on Monday, figures to make it back to Toronto’s pitching equation before the regular season concludes, but he’s at least a few steps away based on his throwing progression. The 23-year-old starter underwent left knee meniscus surgery back in early August. It sounds like he’s going to need at least one minor league rehab start next week before he’s an option for the Blue Jays again.

The 23-year-old starter will need several weeks to build up his arm strength and pitch count and arm strength before he’s ready to jump back into Toronto’s rotation. He’s worth stashing in deeper mixed leagues, but fantasy managers in shallow formats are probably safe to cut bait.

Drew Gilbert went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in leading the Giants to a 5-2 win over the Twins on Monday.

Gilbert seemed overmatched in his major league debut last season, but he’s more than held his own in hitting .237/.327/.396 with 11 homers in 384 plate appearances this year. It’s hard to see much upside beyond this unless he gains some bat speed, but he should remain in the Giants’ outfield plans for next year.

Matthews has been pretty much all or nothing these last two months; he’s allowed one or no runs four times and four or more runs in the remainder of his nine starts. This leaves him 9-11 with a 4.90 ERA with likely one start remaining Sunday against Texas.

It was undoubtedly a positive sign to see Baz work deep into this one after taking a 105-mph line drive off his right arm during his previous start against the Mets last week. However, he managed to settle in afterwards and silence the Blue Jays into the seventh inning. He’ll take the ball for the Orioles’ regular-season finale against the Yankees in New York on Sunday.
