Blue Jays activated RHP Trey Yesavage from the 15-day injured list.

Yesavage will make his return from knee surgery in a start against the Orioles tonight. The Jays are hoping for three innings out of him and then will probably turn the ball over to Spencer Miles.

Yesavage gave up two hits, walked one and struck out three. He threw 30 pitches after throwing 40 pitches in two innings earlier this week. Yesavage mentioned that he plans to add a fourth pitch this offseason and that he’s been dabbling with a curveball and a two-seam fastball. He remains a pitcher whose fantasy future we want to invest in.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Yesavage threw just 40 pitches (26 strikes) in his abbreviated return to Toronto’s rotation roughly six weeks after undergoing left knee meniscus surgery. The lone tally against him came on an opposite-field homer by Pete Alonso. He finished with three strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. There’s very little incentive for the Blue Jays to push him from a workload standpoint, regardless of the playoff implications at stake, when he takes the ball against the Reds this weekend to close out the regular season. He’s too important to their future to put his long-term health at risk.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Yesavage, coming back from knee surgery, threw 34 pitches in his rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday. It might be tempting to start him next week in fantasy leagues, but between the zero chances of a win on Monday and the possibility that he’ll be scratched next weekend if the Jays are out of contention, he doesn’t seem like a top option.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
The 23-year-old has been pitching in Triple-A as he works his way back from knee surgery. He threw 34 pitches in a start on Tuesday. He will now throw another bullpen with the team in Texas and is “on track to join the MLB team on maybe Sunday or Monday.” He will obviously not be fully ramped up by then, but the Blue Jays are fighting for the final playoff spot and believe that even 40-50 pitches from Yesavage is an upgrade for them. His command was a major issue before his injury, so it’s hard to trust him in fantasy leagues for the remainder of 2026.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Yesavage didn’t make it out of the opening frame in his first rehab outing, averaging 93.3 mph on his fastball and topped out at 94.4 during the abbreviated 34-pitch start. He allowed two hits and also issued a walk before being lifted for pitch count reasons. He presumably got the rest of his work done out in the bullpen afterwards. The 23-year-old is attempting to make it back in time for Toronto’s postseason run, assuming they make it there, after undergoing knee surgery last month.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Yesavage is making his way back from knee surgery. He made 30 pitches in a simulated game in his last mound session, so the Jays will probably be aiming for him to throw two or three innings in this outing. He’s attempting to make it back for the postseason, if the Blue Jays manage to qualify.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Yesavage is working his way back from last month’s left knee meniscus surgery with the goal of helping Toronto’s potential postseason run. It seems unrealistic that he’ll return before the conclusion of the regular season, especially with only two weeks left on the calendar, but there’s optimism he’ll be ready to take the ball in October. There’s a slight possibility he’ll make it back for the final weekend of the year, but that’s hardly a reason for fantasy managers to stash him. He’s expected to make a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo in the coming days.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Yesavage, who threw a 34-pitch bullpen session in Florida on Monday, figures to make it back to Toronto’s pitching equation before the regular season concludes, but he’s at least a few steps away based on his throwing progression. The 23-year-old starter underwent left knee meniscus surgery back in early August. It sounds like he’s going to need at least one minor league rehab start next week before he’s an option for the Blue Jays again.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Yesavage, returning from knee surgery, will throw again Monday and then likely face hitters next Thursday. If the Jays remain in contention, he’ll probably get a chance to come off the IL for the final week of the season.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Yesavage is making lightning-quick progress after undergoing left knee meniscus surgery roughly three weeks ago. The 23-year-old is going to need at least a few more weeks to ramp up his throwing progression, but he figures to make it back to contribute in some capacity for the Blue Jays before the end of September.

Angels selected the contract of LHP Nicolò Pinazzi from Triple-A Salt Lake.

The 27-year-old southpaw is now safe from being plucked in the Rule 5 draft. Pinazzi had a breakout 2026 season where he registered a scintillating 0.84 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 103/33 K/BB ratio over 64 innings across four minor league levels. He should get an opportunity to pitch out of the Angels’ bullpen at some point in 2027.

Giants sent C Andrew Knizner outright to Triple-A Sacramento.

The expectation is that the 31-year-old backstop will refuse the assignment and elect free agency, though that hasn’t happened yet. Knizner appeared in 29 games for the Giants in 2026, slashing .219/.288/.356 with a pair of home runs and four RBI in 80 plate appearances. He’ll have no problem latching on somewhere as extra catching depth if he decides to hit the open market.

Guardians declined RHP Shawn Armstrong’s $8 million mutual option for 2027.

Armstrong will receive a buyout of $1.5 million and will hit the free agent market. The 36-year-old made 41 appearances out of the Guardians’ bullpen in 2026, compiling a 4.58 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 34/19 K/BB ratio over 35 1/3 innings. Given the impressive work that he did for the Rays in 2023 and the Rangers in 2025 though, Armstrong shouldn’t have any problem landing a major league deal this winter.

Guardians declined RHP Trevor Stephan’s $7.25 million club option for 2027.

The 30-year-old hurler will instead receive a $1.25 million buyout and will hit the free agent market. Stephen hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2023 season. He missed the entire 2024 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He made 22 ghastly appearances at Triple-A Columbus in 2026, posting an 11.12 ERA, 2.07 WHIP and a 23/18 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 innings. He’ll make for an interesting low-risk flier on what will probably be a minor league contract for someone this offseason.

Guardians selected the contract of INF Milan Tolentino from Triple-A Columbus.

The move protects the versatile 24-year-old from the upcoming Rule 5 draft. Tolentino spent the entire 2026 campaign at the Triple-A level where he slashed .225/.328/.453 with 21 homers, 74 RBI, 20 stolen bases and a 157/65 K/BB ratio over 497 plate appearances. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him debut with the Guardians at some point in 2027.

Rays declined their $10 million mutual option on OF Cedric Mullins for 2027.

Instead, the 32-year-old outfielder will receive a $500,000 buyout and will hit the free agent market. Mullins appeared in 107 games for the American League Champions, slashing an underwhelming .207/.284/.344 with 15 homers, 48 RBI and 21 stolen bases (in 31 attempts). He only had five plate appearances in the postseason, going 2-for-5 with a homer, stolen base and three runs scored. His fantasy value in 2027 will be tied to whether or not he’s able to land a starting or strong-side platoon role someplace.

Rangers’ DH Joc Pederson declined his $18.5 million mutual option for 2027.

The 34-year-old slugger had a major resurgence in 2026, slashing .235/.329/.487 with 26 homers and 53 RBI in 432 plate appearances with the Rangers — the most home runs that he has hit in a season since 2019. He’s hopeful that he’ll be able to parlay that success into a multi-year deal on the open market this winter.

Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports that the Diamondbacks plan to hire Padres’ bullpen coach Ben Fritz to be their next pitching coach.

Fritz will take over for Ben Kaplan who was let go following a rough 2026 campaign. The 45-year-old has spent the past seven seasons as the Padres’ bullpen coach and this will be his first gig as a full-time pitching coach at the MLB level, though he briefly fulfilled that role with the Padres on an interim basis after Larry Rothschild was dismissed in 2021.

Athletics declined 2B Jeff McNeil’s club option for 2027.

The option was for $15.75 million and never really had any chance of being picked up. The Mets will be on the hook for his $2 million buyout under the terms of the deal that send him to the A’s last winter. Even with a strong second half, McNeil hit a modest .264/.313/.368 last season. He’ll most likely land a starting job in free agency, but at this point, it’s questionable whether he has the glove for second or the bat to help at first or in left.

Athletics declined LHP Jeffrey Springs’ club option for 2027.

The A’s held a $15 million option with a $750,000 buyout under the terms of the four-year, $31 million deal Spring signed with the Rays prior to the 2023 season. Springs’ strikeout rate collapsed immediately after the A’s picked him up two years ago, and he had a 6.18 ERA last season, giving up 35 homers in 142 2/3 innings.
