Sanchez is 5-3 with a 1.76 ERA, 47 H and 86/27 K/BB in 71 2/3 IP. While he’s often been looked at as a future reliever, the 23-year-old Sanchez is currently making a case to step into Mike Maroth’s rotation spot in Detroit. It’s Zach Miner’s job for now, but Sanchez might be next in line.

Sal Stewart went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer to lift the Reds to a 5-3 win over the Padres on Tuesday.

Stewart had drawn a pair of walks before the game was extended to extra innings. He came up in a big spot for the Reds at the top of the 11th, taking Yuki Matsui deep for a two-run blast to take the lead. His first home run in 15 games couldn’t have come at a better time. The 22-year-old slugger is up to 13 this season while hitting .254/.351/.464 with 36 runs scored, 42 RBI, and 10 steals across 288 plate appearances.

Soderstrom 'turning the corner' amid hot streak

Tyler Soderstrom's two-HR day was just the latest sign that the Athletics' slugger is in the middle of a hot streak. Eric Samulski says fantasy managers should expect the ball to "fly off his bat" as summer rolls on.

Fernando Tatis Jr. went 4-for-6 with one run scored against the Reds on Tuesday.

Tatis got on four times against the Reds on Tuesday, starting with a base hit and a run scored in the third inning. He added a double in the fifth, then singled and was caught stealing in the seventh before reaching with his fourth hit in the ninth. The 27-year-old outfielder still has just one home run on the season while hitting .279/.348/.336 with 24 runs scored, 19 RBI, and 15 steals across 280 plate appearances.

Zach Maxwell

CIN Relief Pitcher #78

Zach Maxwell tossed a scoreless 11th inning to record the save for the Reds in extra innings against the Padres.

Maxwell was called on to pitch the bottom of the 11th after the Reds took a two-run lead in the top of the frame. This came one inning after Tejay Antone blew a one-run lead in the tenth. Maxwell needed just nine pitches to record three outs, securing the win for Cincinnati with his first save.

Chase Burns

CIN Starting Pitcher #26

Chase Burns allowed two runs while striking out seven batters over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Padres on Tuesday.

Burns stranded two runners through two scoreless innings before the Padres broke through for two runs on three hits in the third. He’d go on to pitch into the sixth, giving up two hits with two outs to end his day at a season-high 105 pitches. Burns struck out seven. The 23-year-old right-hander will take a 2.14 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and an 88/23 K/BB ratio across 75 2/3 innings into a start against the Mets in Cincinnati on Monday.

Lucas Giolito

SD Starting Pitcher #55

Lucas Giolito allowed two runs -- one earned -- with three strikeouts over four innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Tuesday.

Giolito tossed a scoreless first inning, then gave up a run on a walk and a hit in the second. An error by Giolito with the bases loaded in the third would bring a second run in. He’d strand one more runner in a scoreless fourth, ending his day at 85 pitches with five walks and three strikeouts. Through five outings, the 31-year-old right-hander carries a 4.35 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, and a 14/18 K/BB ratio across 20 2/3 innings. He’ll take on the Cardinals in St. Louis on Monday.

Randy Arozarena

SEA Left Fielder #56

Randy Arozarena went 3-for-5 and hit a two-run homer in the top of the 10th as the Mariners bested the Orioles 6-5 in 10 innings Tuesday.

Arozarena already had three hard-hit balls before he hit one 360 feet to right-center for is seventh homer, giving the Orioles a 6-4 lead in the 10th. The Orioles managed to score the automatic runner in the bottom of the frame, but that was it for them. Arozarena has seven homers on the year. Statcast thinks he’s overachieved in hitting .299/.385/.462, but there’s no point in telling him that

Logan Gilbert

SEA Starting Pitcher #36

Logan Gilbert pitched six innings of one-run ball Tuesday against the Padres.

It wasn’t enough to get Gilbert a win, so he remains 4-4 with a 3.62 ERA, even though the Mariners prevailed in one of his starts for the eighth time this year. Gilbert will face the Orioles again next week, but this time, it will be home in Seattle, improving his chances of recoding a victory.

Nick Davila

SEA Relief Pitcher

Nick Davila, who was recalled before the game, recorded his first major league save Tuesday after allowing only the inherited runner to score in the 10th against the Orioles.

Davila started his outing by plunking Blaze Alexander and giving up an RBI single, but he retired three in a row from there, with Alexander being thrown out at home on a grounder for the second out. Davila got the chance tonight because Andrés Muñoz was unavailable after working the previous two days.

Trevor Rogers

BAL Starting Pitcher #28

Trevor Rogers wasn’t involved in the decision after allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Mariners.

Rogers struck out three and walked one in a second straight solid start after a rather lengthy run of futility. Still, he was far from dominant in giving up 10 hard-hit balls and recording seven whiffs. He’ll pitch at home against the Padres on Sunday.

Rico Garcia

Rico Garcia took his first loss after allowing two runs — one earned — in the 10th Tuesday against the Mariners.

A rare failure from Garcia saw him give up a 360-foot homer to Randy Arozarena with the automatic runner on in the 10th. It’s his first loss in 30 appearances this season. He’s given up three homers but just four earned runs to date. He should remain worth using in mixed leagues until Ryan Helsley returns.
