Rheinecker was unlucky in the five-run first, as Carlos Lee lost a ball in the Metrodome roof for a hit and a second lazy fly fell for a hit. Still, he wasn’t going to last long tonight. He should be dropped from the rotation and returned to Triple-A now that the Rangers have Kip Wells.

Okamoto jump-started Toronto’s eventual comeback win by taking Orioles starter Trevor Rogers deep to left field in the seventh inning. It was his 12th big fly of the season and second round-tripper in his last three games. The 29-year-old rookie has had some up-and-down stretches during his stateside debut, but he’s shown an ability to consistently hit for power as a potential middle-of-the-order run-producing threat for the Blue Jays.

Basallo drove in a run with a sacrifice fly his first time up in the contest before hammering a hanging curveball from Blue Jays reliever Austin Voth in the fifth inning to extend Baltimore’s lead to five runs at the time. It was his ninth big fly of the season and fourth time he’s gone deep in his last 11 games since May 16. He’s cooled off a little bit recently, but Basallo has been on a tear in recent weeks, hitting .351 (34-for-97) with six homers and 20 RBI over his last 30 games.

Macko drew the starting assignment in place of an injured Dylan Cease (hamstring) and managed to record five outs before turning things over to bulk reliever Austin Voth, who surrendered five runs over 3 1/3 frames. He figures to get at least one or two additional turns in Toronto’s rotation before Cease is ready to come off the injured list.

Rogers coughed up homers to Kazuma Okamoto and rookie Charles McAdoo, but managed to mostly keep the Orioles in this one. He struck out three and only issued one walk. The results simply haven’t been there for Rogers to warrant consideration for a roster spot in fantasy leagues as he holds a bloated 6.84 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 38/18 K/BB ratio across 48 1/3 innings. He’s shown zero signs that he’s going to turn things around either. He’ll face the Red Sox at Fenway Park his next time out on Thursday.

After the Marlins went down scoreless in the top half of the 10th inning, all the Mets needed to do was push a run across to put the game in the win column. After Juan Soto flew out to open the inning, Melendez unloaded on an 0-2 fastball from Pete Fairbanks, crushing a 373-foot (105.0 mph EV) two-run blast to end it. He also hit a sacrifice fly as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning, finishing the night 1-for-1 with three RBI. On the season, he’s slashing .213/.326/.400 with three homers and nine RBI in his first 90 plate appearances with the Mets.

Vientos did his damage early in this one, demolishing a Max Meyer fastball for a 445-foot (109.2 mph EV) solo shot in the third inning that extended the Mets’ early advantage to 5-1. That would be his only hit in four at-bats in the contest. For the season, the 26-year-old slugger is now slashing .224/.261/.391 with seven homers and 24 RBI.

Peralta punched out five batters on the night while issuing one base on balls. The Marlins scratched out single runs against him in the third and fourth innings, then added another pair while chasing Peralta in the fifth. The 29-year-old hurler got 12 whiffs on 94 pitches on the night — eight on his changeup — while posting a CSW of 24 percent. He now sports a 3.55 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 68/28 K/BB ratio over 66 innings through his first 12 starts with the Mets. He’ll do battle against the Mariners his next time out in Seattle on Wednesday.
