The Orioles worked out free agent Kazuaki Minami on Monday, but they aren’t likely to sign the right-hander.
Minami, 25, pitched only briefly in Japan’s top leagues, appearing in two games in 2004. He reportedly showed a high-80s fastball and a decent slider while working out for Baltimore. He’s only going to be a candidate for a minor league deal.

Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that Jon Berti is generating interest from MLB teams after his strong showing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic.
The versatile 36-year-old has had at least 10 teams check on his status. Berti intends to sign with a contender that will utilize him in a utility role and allow him to play multiple positions. If he somehow works his way into everyday at-bats at some point during the 2026 season, his speed could make him worthy of an addition for fantasy purposes.
Who broke Dan Patrick's Sammy Sosa statue?
The I-Team is on the case to trace the culprit after Dan Patrick's Sammy Sosa statue was found in pieces at the Mancave.
  • CLE Shortstop #74
Guardians optioned INF Juan Brito to Triple-A Columbus; Reassigned RHP Trevor Stephan to minor league camp.
Brito, 24, had a rough time at the plate during Cactus League play, hitting just .154 (4-for-26) with a homer and six RBI. Stephan was always facing an uphill battle in a crowded bullpen mix for the Guardians, but he should get an opportunity at some point during the 2026 campaign.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #40
Athletics’ manager Mark Kotsay announced Thursday that Luis Severino will start on Opening Day against the Blue Jays in Toronto.
It’s the second straight Opening Day assignment for Severino since joining the Athletics — and the third overall in his career. He has been significantly better on the road than he has been at home with the A’s, especially in Sutter Health Park, so perhaps he could be worth a look as a streaming option for Friday’s opener.
  • NYM Catcher #4
Francisco Alvarez was removed from Thursday night’s Grapefruit League showdown against the Astros in the fourth inning due to a possible injury.
No word yet from the Mets on what exactly is going on, but Alvarez was pulled during the top half of the fourth inning after he was slated to play the entire game. It’s possible that he may have tweaked something on a swing while striking out during his first at-bat. Stay tuned, as the Mets should have an update on his status shortly.
  • COL 1st Baseman
Rockies reassigned INF/OFs Charlie Condon, Cole Carrigg and Vimael Machin to minor league camp.
No one from this trio was expected to crack the Rockies’ Opening Day roster, but Condon made a strong case this spring — hitting .385 (15-for-39) with three homers and nine RBI over 46 plate appearances during Cactus League play. If Troy Johnston or TJ Rumfield struggle early in the season and Condon gets off to a hot start at Triple-A Albuquerque, he could push for a promotion.
  • LAA Center Fielder #19
Angels reassigned OF Jose Siri and LHP Tayler Saucedo to minor league camp.
Siri, 30, could’ve competed for a bench spot on the team’s Opening Day roster with a strong showing during Cactus League play, but he hit just .194 (7-for-36) with one RBI, one stolen base and a 12/1 K/BB ratio. He’ll begin the season as extra outfield depth at the Triple-A level.
  • NYY Designated Hitter #27
Giancarlo Stanton laced his fourth homer Thursday as a Yankees split-squad bested the Orioles 5-4.
Stanton’s homer off Yennier Cano was hit 340 feet to right and would have left just two MLB ballparks, but that was just making things even. In his prior at-bat, Stanton crushed a ball 416 feet to center off Dean Kremer. Statcast said it would have been a homer in 23 ballparks, but it was a flyout today.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #54
Max Fried yielded three runs and walked four in five innings versus the Orioles on Thursday.
Fried’s velocity today was still down 1.5-2 mph from last year, and he gave up 11 hard-hit balls. However, it’s probably still safe to assume that he’ll back a lot closer to his usual self on Opening Day, when he’s set to face the Giants. Last year, he topped out at 95.1 mph in his Mar. 18 spring start. Today, he topped out at 95.5 mph.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #64
Dean Kremer limited the Yankees to one run in 4 1/3 innings and struck out eight on Thursday.
Kremer got 15 whiffs on 39 swings while facing a lot of regulars today in his first official spring appearance this month. He previously threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings for Israel against Nicaragua in the WBC. Kremer figures to be a part of the Orioles’ potential six-man rotation to begin the year, though he’s the least interesting member of the group for fantasy purposes.
  • BAL 1st Baseman #16
Coby Mayo hit a two-run homer off Max Fried in the Orioles’ loss to the Yankees on Thursday.
Based on his mediocre exit velocity numbers and too-high strikeout rate, Mayo’s September breakout last year seemed like a mirage. His strong spring numbers, though, hold up much better to scrutiny, as he’s struck out just once in 34 plate appearances and his hard-hit rate sits at 47%. We’re still not particularly confident he’ll be helpful in shallow leagues while filling in for Jordan Westburg, but there are certainly worse fliers out there.
