Athletics pitching prospect Chris Kohler scattered two hits over five shutout frames Monday in a win for Low-A Vermont.
The win was Kohler’s first of the season. Monday was only the left-hander’s second start since coming back from Tommy John surgery. So far, Kohler has held opponents to a .222 average in 36 at-bats. He’s posted 10 strikeouts with one walk over that stretch. The 20-year-old was Oakland’s third-round pick in 2013.

Astros manager Joe Espada said Josh Hader could throw a bullpen session next week.
Hader has been limited to playing catch after experiencing biceps inflammation in his ramp up. If he’s pain-free when he gets back on the mound, then there might be some chance of him being available on Opening Day. Still, it seems more likely that he’ll miss at least the first week or two of the season. Bryan Abreu is the Astros’ fallback in the closer’s role.
Target Abreu late for fantasy RP amid Hader injury
Eric Samulski and James Schiano look at the 'landmine-y' world of fantasy relief pitchers and explain why Josh Hader's injury gives Bryan Abreu a massive boost in value.

Nate Pearson experienced soreness in his right elbow following his left bullpen session, manager Joe Espada said.
Pearson underwent a cleanup surgery on the elbow in the offseason. He signed a major league deal with the Astros in October and he was supposed to get a look as a starter this spring, but he’s probably IL bound now.

Brendan Rodgers is going for a second opinion after undergoing tests on his injured shoulder.
It sounds like it might be another lost season for the 29-year-old Rodgers. “Most likely he’s going to end up in surgery,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “What type of surgery? I don’t know. We’ll wait and see what he has to say but that’s probably what’s going to happen.”
  • CLE Pitcher #33
Hunter Gaddis is dealing with forearm tightness and will be reassessed on Thursday.
Gaddis wasn’t feeling right after his spring debut Friday, but since tests on his arm came back negative, he still might have a chance of being ready for Opening Day. The very reliable Gaddis pitched in 78 games for the Guardians in 2024 and 73 last year. He hasn’t missed any time with injury as a major leaguer.
  • BOS Outfield #52
Wilyer Abreu is in the cleanup spot for Team Venezuela in Tuesday’s exhibition against the Astros.
Abreu was certainly expected to be in the lineup, but that’s a little higher placement than we’d have guessed. Today’s lineup: RF Ronald Acuña Jr., 1B Luis Arraez, CF Jackson Chourio, LF Abreu, 3B Maikel Garcia, DH Eugenio Suárez, C William Contreras, 2B Gleyber Torres and SS Andrés Giménez. Willson Contreras is on the bench, even though he’d seem to be a clear upgrade over Arraez.
  • SD Outfield #23
Fernando Tatis Jr. is leading off for the Dominican Republic in Tuesday’s exhibition against the Tigers.
The Padres are leaning towards batting Tatis lower in the order this year, but he’s still at the top of the D.R.'s All-Star squad. The lineup, with Luis Severino slated to start: RF Tatis, 2B Ketel Marte, LF Juan Soto, 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 3B Manny Machado, DH Junior Caminero, CF Julio Rodríguez, C Austin Wells and SS Geraldo Perdomo.
  • KC Infield #7
Team USA has Bobby Witt Jr. leading off Tuesday in an exhibition against the Giants.
Because they knew this was coming, the Royals recently had Witt lead off a couple of spring games, though they’re still planning to bat him second this year. The Team USA lineup: SS Witt, 1B Bryce Harper, RF Aaron Judge, DH Kyle Schwarber, 3B Alex Bregman, C Cal Raleigh, LF Roman Anthony, CF Byron Buxton and 2B Brice Turang. Paul Skenes will start.
  • ATL Left Fielder #7
The MLBPA will file a grievance in response to the league’s plan to suspend Jurickson Profar for 162 games.
No word yet on what the argument against the suspension will be. We don’t even know yet what Profar tested positive for. The Braves will surely want a quick resolution either way. If Profar is suspended for the season, his $15 million salary would be off the books, and the Braves could use that money to potentially sign a starter (Lucas Giolito?) and a replacement DH/outfielder (Tommy Pham? Andrew McCutchen?).
  • MIL Pitcher #46
Quinn Priester might not be ready for Opening Day with the Brewers slow-playing his spring as a result of some wrist discomfort from last year.
The Brewers have been taking it slow with a number of pitchers this spring, but there was no stated reason for their doing so with Priester until now. That the wrist issue has lingered is a surprise; he had one start pushed back because of it at the end of August, but he finished the season just fine from there. If he’s behind at the start of the year, it might not be an IL situation, as the Brewers could just continue to build him up in major league games.
  • LAD Pitcher #35
Tests showed only inflammation in Gavin Stone’s shoulder after his setback last week.
That’s good news for the Dodgers, even if Stone won’t be ready for the beginning of the season. He’ll rest for a couple of weeks, and he’ll probably start off on the injured list before being optioned to Triple-A once healthy.
