Pedro Alvarez hit a two-run home run, his third in the past two days, in Sunday’s Grapefruit League win over the Cardinals.
Alvarez faced lefty Tyler Webb in the eighth inning and won the matchup, lifting a long fly ball to right field for the two-run blast. It was his third homer of the spring, and the 32-year-old is hitting .345 with a 1.136 OPS in 29 at-bats. He somewhat surprisingly seems like a good bet to break camp with the Marlins at this point.

Rays transferred RHP Edwin Uceta (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Uceta had a setback last week while attempting to return from a shoulder impingement that has sidelined him all spring. He’ll remain out through at least May. This moves him off the 40-man roster and allows the Rays a spot to acquire Casey Legumina from the Mariners.
Rookie Ritchie had 'impressive' debut for Braves
James Schiano discusses rookie starting pitcher JR Ritchie's debut for the Atlanta Braves, where he "settled in very nicely" in a win over the Nationals despite giving up a home run on his first major league pitch.
  • Mariners acquired RHP Ty Cummings from the Rays for RHP Casey Legumina.
Cummings had a 3.29 ERA in 29 appearances (20 starts) last year between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. He came over originally as the player to be named later in the Randy Arozarena trade. He heads back to Seattle as a 24-year-old with a 1.69 ERA in 5 1/3rd innings with Montgomery in 2026.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #64
Rays acquired RHP Casey Legumina from the Mariners for RHP Ty Cummings.
Legumina, holder of a career 5.83 ERA in 73 major league games, will head to the Rays laboratory and see if they can get him humming. He’s no threat to the top of the bullpen at the moment.
  • BOS Right Fielder #19
Roman Anthony (back) is not in Boston’s starting lineup Friday against the Orioles.
It’ll again be Masataka Yoshida batting third and DHing as Anthony continues to deal with a sore back. This is Anthony’s third straight day sitting with the injury. Red Sox beat reporters generally seem optimistic he’ll be back soon.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #70
Orioles optioned RHP Jose Espada to Triple-A Norfolk.
Espada did not appear in a game in his brief stint with the Orioles and returns to work on his 5.40 ERA in eight appearances in Norfolk.
  • BAL Right Fielder #62
Orioles optioned OF Johnathan Rodriguez to Triple-A Norfolk.
The 26-year-old hit a robust .000/.273/.000 in 11 plate appearances as Tyler O’Neill’s replacement while O’Neill was on the concussion injured list. He’ll head back to the minors and continue to function as depth for the Orioles.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #39
Orioles activated Andrew Kittredge (shoulder) off the 15-day injured list.
He’ll return to a high-end role in the Orioles bullpen, but would appear unlikely to be able to do much but make footholds while Ryan Helsley is on the bereavement list. He could eventually find his way into the holds mix if he pitches well.
  • BAL Right Fielder #9
Orioles activated OF Tyler O’Neill off the 7-day concussion injured list.
He’ll be eligible to return tonight against the Red Sox. O’Neill wound up missing about two weeks after suffering his concussion on April 9. Baltimore hasn’t posted a lineup yet but it would not be surprising if O’Neill found his way into it.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #71
Phillies recalled RHP Alex McFarlane from Double-A Reading.
McFarlane will take Taijuan Walker’s roster spot. The 24-year-old had a 1.42 ERA in seven games with Reading, striking out 10 in 6 1/3 innings pitched with one save. It seems likely he’ll assume a bullpen role in Philadelphia for the time being.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #58
Mets selected the contract of RHP Carl Edwards Jr. from Triple-A Syracuse.
Edwards will look to fill in some innings for the big club after Christian Scott forced two Mets long relievers to pitch on Thursday by not getting out of the second. Edwards has essentially functioned as an up-and-down reliever after two successful years in Washington in 2022 and 2023 — this is his fourth team since then and he’s recorded just five major league appearances in that timespan. He had a 5.29 ERA and 1.47 WHIP for Syracuse in four starts.
