    Justin Upton went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit solo home run Saturday as the Mariners edged the Athletics.
    Upton replaced Sam Haggerty as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the eighth and jumped on a first-pitch fastball from A.J. Puk, sending it to left field for his first home run of 2022. The 34-year-old veteran’s bat could come in handy for the Mariners down the stretch.

    Nolan Schanuel went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk on Wednesday in a 7-2 win over the Cardinals.
    Schanuel got the scoring started in this one with a solo homer off Lance Lynn to lead off the bottom of the first inning. He added a base hit in the sixth and reached once more with a walk in the eighth. The 22-year-old first baseman is slashing .244/.320/.356 with four homers and 15 RBI across 155 plate appearances.

    Zach Neto went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Wednesday against the Cardinals.
    Neto knocked a single to lead off the second inning, but was caught stealing second. He’s now just 6-for-11 on steal attempts. Neto got around all the bases in the sixth, taking Nick Robertson deep for a solo homer. The 23-year-old shortstop is hitting .250/.297/.392 with four homers, 14 runs scored, 14 RBI, and six steals across 158 plate appearances.

    Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk against the Angels on Wednesday.
    After drawing a walk in the fourth, Goldschmidt ended the shutout in the sixth inning, putting the Cardinals on the board with a solo homer off Griffin Canning. The 36-year-old first baseman is slashing .206/.291/.300 with four homers, 20 runs scored, 15 RBI, and two steals across 181 plate appearances.

    Griffin Canning tossed six innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.
    Canning put together another excellent outing on Wednesday, holding the Cardinals to one run over six frames. The one run would score on a solo homer by Paul Goldschmidt in the sixth inning. Canning scattered four other hits and three walks while striking out five. The 28-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 5.21 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and a 34/18 K/BB ratio across 46 2/3 innings. He lines up for a start against the Astros in Houston on Tuesday.

    Lance Lynn allowed four runs with five strikeouts over five innings in a loss to the Angels on Wednesday.
    The Angels got to Lynn in the first inning. He served up a leadoff homer to Nolan Schanuel before three hits and a wild pitch brought three more runs in to score in the opening frame. Lynn would settle in to toss four more scoreless innings before his day was done. The 37-year-old right-hander will take a 4.17 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and a 43/20 K/BB ratio across 45 1/3 innings into a start against the Orioles in St. Louis on Tuesday.

    Mike Yastrzemski went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer to lead the Giants to a 4-1 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.
    Yastrzemski put the Giants on the board with a two-run homer off Elieser Hernández in the third inning. He added a base hit in the seventh. The 33-year-old outfielder has hit leadoff for the last three games and could remain in the top spot against right-handed pitching. Yastrzemski is hitting .223/.286/.379 with four homers and 14 RBI across 113 plate appearances.

    Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk against the Giants on Wednesday.
    Freeman drew a walk in the third inning, then knocked a base hit in the fifth. He reached for a third time with a single to lead off the eighth and came around to score on a single and a sacrifice fly. The 34-year-old first baseman is hitting .297/.408/.455 with four homers, 26 runs scored, 24 RBI, and one steal across 201 plate appearances.

    Camilo Doval struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning for the save against the Dodgers on Wednesday.
    Doval was summoned to close out the game with a three-run lead in the ninth. He struck out the first two batters, then walked Mookie Betts before giving up a base hit to Shohei Ohtani. Freddie Freeman grounded out to second base to end the game. Doval is up to seven saves with a 3.18 ERA and 23 strikeouts across 17 innings.

    Logan Webb tossed sixth scoreless innings with five strikeouts in a win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.
    Webb worked around some trouble to start the game, loading the bases with one out in the first inning. He struck out a batter for the second out and escaped the jam with a line out to right field. Webb scattered two walks and two hits over five more scoreless frames, striking out five on the day. The 27-year-old right-hander will take a 3.03 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and a 47/17 K/BB ratio across 59 1/3 innings into a start against the Pirates in Pittsburgh next Wednesday.

    Elieser Hernández allowed three runs with three strikeouts over six innings in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday.
    Hernández was solid in his first major league start since 2022, tossing a quality start in San Francisco. He surrendered a two-run homer to Mike Yastrzemski in the third inning, then gave up a run on a base hit and a double in the sixth. With no off days for another week, a second start could come next Tuesday against the Diamondbacks in Los Angeles. Otherwise, he’ll likely retreat to Triple-A to continue working as a starter.
