Astros activated RHP Blake Taylor from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Taylor had been with Triple-A Sugar Land on a minor league rehab assignment since the start of the regular season, and now he’ll hang out there a bit longer while he continues to build back up to full strength. He’ll get his chance to work out of the big league bullpen at some point during the 2023 campaign.

Braves’ manager Walt Weiss told reporters after Thursday’s game that Ronald Acuña Jr. was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left thumb.

Acuña suffered the injury at some point during Thursday’s contest. He did undergo precautionary X-rays, which came back negative for any fractures. Weiss also noted that the superstar outfielder was already lobbying to be included in Friday’s lineup. He’s considered day-to-day. It sounds like fantasy managers dodged a bullet here.

According to Carlos Baerga, the Cardinals plan to promote Bryan Torres from Triple-A Memphis prior to Friday’s series opener against the Reds.

The Cardinals are in need of an extra outfielder with Nathan Church expected to land on the injured list with an undisclosed issue. It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 28-year-old outfielder. Torres has hit .336/.454/.477 with a pair of homers and 16 RBI in 166 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season.

Ronald Acuña Jr.

Ronald Acuña Jr. was removed from Thursday’s contest against the Marlins due to pain in his left thumb.

The superstar outfielder was removed when the Braves took the field for the sixth inning. Fortunately, the team is calling his exit a precautionary measure, and his injury isn’t believed to be serious. Fantasy managers should be sure to check back on Friday to ensure that he’s in the lineup when setting lineups for the weekend.

Rockies designated LHP Carson Palmquist for assignment.

The Rockies needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for the addition of Chad Stevens on Thursday and unfortunately for Palmquist he was the odd man out this time. There’s a decent chance that he could pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra pitching depth for the Rockies.

Rockies optioned LHP Sammy Peralta to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Peralta made just one appearance during his time with the big league club, giving up two runs on two hits and a pair of walks in just 2/3 of an inning. Blas Castano was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to take his place in the Rockies’ bullpen.

Rockies recalled RHP Blas Castaño from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Castano was recalled from Triple-A on Sunday, optioned back on Monday and now returns on Thursday as Brenton Doyle heads to the injured list. The 27-year-old hurler allowed just one run over 2 1/3 innings during his last brief stay with the Rockies. He’ll function in a middle relief role.

Rockies placed OF Brenton Doyle on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 20, with a left oblique contusion.

Doyle suffered the injury while attempting to make a diving play in center field during Tuesday’s contest against the Rangers. They attempted to take it day-to-day, but since he wasn’t improving quickly enough it made sense to sit him down for a bit and make sure that he heals properly. Chad Stevens was promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque to take his place on the Rockies’ active roster.

Rockies selected the contract of INF Chad Stevens from Triple-A Albuquerque.

The 27-year-old infielder had been lighting the world on fire at the Triple-A level, slashing a blistering .362/.435/.523 with three homers, 25 RBI and six stolen bases in 168 plate appearances. He’ll start at second base and bat ninth for the Rockies on Thursday evening against Eduardo Rodriguez and the Diamondbacks.

Bo Bichette

NYM 3rd Baseman #19

Bo Bichette went 1-for-4 and smacked a two-run single on Thursday as the Mets eked out a 2-1 victory over the Nationals in Washington.

Bichette strolled to the dish with the bases loaded in the third inning and poked a first-pitch knuckle curve from Cade Cavalli into center for a two-run single, giving the Mets an early advantage that they would never relinquish. That would be his only hit in four trips on the day. For the season, the 28-year-old infielder is slashing an underwhelming .225/.276/.328 with five homers and 27 RBI through his first 221 plate appearances with the Mets.

Devin Williams

NYM Relief Pitcher #38

Devin Williams slammed the door on the Nationals on Thursday afternoon, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a one-run advantage.

The 31-year-old hurler made it hard on himself in this one, allowing a leadoff double to Daylen Lile to put the tying run in scoring position, but he battled back to retire the next three hitters in order to preserve the game. Williams notched his seventh save of the season for his efforts. He now holds a 4.32 ERA and a 25/8 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings on the season.
