Mets designated RHP Tommy Hunter for assignment.
Hunter has been removed from New York’s 40-man roster after struggling to a calamitous 6.85 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 20/5 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings (14 appearances) this season. The 36-year-old veteran reliever has spent 16 seasons in the majors since 2008, but this might be the end of the road.

Luis Arraez is day-to-day with thumb soreness.
Giants manager Tony Vitello told reporters he’s hopeful Arraez will be ready for Friday’s series opener against the Pirates after sitting out a pair of contests to deal with a minor thumb issue.
Can Okamoto turn hot streak into consistency?
Kazuma Okamoto is scorching the ball. What does that mean for his long-term fantasy abseball outlook?
  • WSH 1st Baseman #2
Luis Garcia Jr. (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Twins.
Garcia will sit out his second straight contest after being diagnosed with a right wrist sprain. He’s expected to avoid a trip to the injured list. Curtis Mead makes another start at the hot corner in his place on Wednesday evening.
  • SD Catcher #12
Luis Campusano is day-to-day with a foot injury.
Padres manager Craig Stammen told reporters Campusano is banged up after fouling a ball off his foot during Tuesday’s game against the Giants. He’s questionable for Thursday’s series opener against the Cardinals.
  • LAA Catcher #25
Travis d’Arnaud was removed from Wednesday’s game against the White Sox with a foot injury.
The Angels are already without starter Logan O’Hoppe (wrist), so they’re going to need to bring up some additional catching depth, even if d’Arnaud manages to avoid a trip to the injured list. The 37-year-old backstop took White Sox rookie southpaw Noah Schultz deep for a three-run homer before leaving Wednesday afternoon’s contest in the fifth inning. He’s set to undergo further testing prior to Friday’s series opener against Toronto.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Bryan Woo turned in six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out nine, as the Mariners defeated the Braves 3-1 on Wednesday.
Woo threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of 21 batters on his way to earning his second victory of the year. It was nice to see him match his season high for strikeouts after he fanned just three batters over nine innings in his previous two starts combined. He’s slated to face the Astros on the road next time out.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #45
Jose A. Ferrer earned his second save with a perfect ninth against the Braves on Wednesday.
The Mariners certainly weren’t going to use Andrés Muñoz for a third straight day, but they were willing to do so with Ferrer. The lefty gave up a long fly to Matt Olson to start the outing, but it stayed in the park, and he then retired the Michael Harris II and Mauricio Dubón to end the game. He has a 1.89 ERA in 19 innings out of the pen.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #33
Martín Pérez yielded two runs in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Mariners.
Pérez has a 2.38 ERA in his five starts and two relief appearances this season. He could spend more time in the pen now that the Braves have Spencer Strider back, but we’ll see how that works out. Since the Braves have six starters and off days Thursday and Monday, we wouldn’t expect to see Pérez start during the Cubs series running from Tuesday through Thursday next week.
  • SEA 2nd Baseman #2
Cole Young finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI against the Braves on Wednesday.
Young was the only player on either the Mariners or Braves to finish with multiple hits today, and he provided an insurance run in a 2-1 game in the eighth with his third knock. He has four three-hit games this season. Last year, he accomplished that just twice in 77 games after his callup.
  • SD 1st Baseman #25
Ty France came off the bench to hit a go-ahead two-run triple in the seventh as the Padres bested the Giants 5-1 on Wednesday.
The triple should have been caught in right field, but France deserved the break after being handicapped going into the at-bat. The Padres didn’t immediately decide to have him hit for Sung-Mun Song after the Giants brought lefty Matt Gage into the game, and France was charged with an automatic strike because of the delay before his at-bat started. He ended up in a full count afterwards before sending the seventh actual pitch of the at-bat to right field for a triple off Jesus Rodriguez’s glove. France is batting .291/.328/.564 as a part-timer for the Padres. He’s been on the bench each of the last four times the team has faced a righty.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #61
Matt Waldron fanned seven while allowing one run over five innings Wednesday a victory against the Giants.
Waldron worked behind an opener today, which proved important since the Padres only took the lead for good in the seventh. If Waldron had come out after five, he would have missed out on his first win of the season. He’s still probably in line for a demotion now, as the Padres are off Monday and could have Lucas Giolito join the rotation afterwards.
