Ketel Marte went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a stolen base on Tuesday, leading the Diamondbacks to an 8-4 win over the Giants.
Marte gave Arizona a commanding five-run cushion in the fourth inning with a two-run single to into shallow center field off Giants reliever Alex Wood. It was his 10th career four-hit performance and the first time he’s accomplished the feat this season. The 29-year-old is slashing an impressive .279/.360/.487 with 90 runs scored, 23 homers, 79 RBI and seven stolen bases across 619 plate appearances in 142 games.

Mets activated Juan Soto (calf) from the 10-day injured list.
Manager Carlos Mendoza said that Soto would go through a pregame workout on Wednesday that would determine his availability for the game. It seems the workout went just fine, and Soto is in the lineup at designated hitter and hitting second. The team will manage his calf injury with some starts at DH and some days off in the coming weeks, and fantasy manager should expect a little bit less running, but he needs to be in all lineups.
Mets are 'finding ways to lose' amid 12-game skid
Despite the Mets' stunning 12-game losing streak, CC Sabathia believes New York has the pieces to "turn it around," sharing why potentially moving on from manager Carlos Mendoza may not be the right answer.
  • PHI Catcher #10
The Athletic’s Matt Gelb reports that J.T. Realmuto will be placed on the 10-day injured list with his lower back injury.
Realmuto had missed two games but played Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs; however, he felt that the injury was “too restrictive.” The veteran has played through foot and back injuries this year to slash .259/.344/.352 in 61 plate appearances. Rafael Marchán will likely split time with Garrett Stubbs until Realmuto returns.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #23
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Jeff Hoffman will not pitch on Wednesday because he has been used three of the last four days, but the team will “use the off-day to talk about (role) with him.”
Schneider claimed that he doesn’t want to make a knee-jerk decision, but “we’ll re-evaluate everything, talk with him, see how he’s doing. He’s going through it, obviously, a little bit.” Nothing is certain, but that does sound like a manager who is thinking about giving his closer a break from high-leverage innings while they try to figure out how to help him. “How can we be there to support you? How can we help you get ahead of hitters? Is it mechanical? Is it between the ears a little bit? What’s going on and how can we help?” We still believe the Blue Jays would like to have Hoffman close, so he could easily return to the role if the team figures out what’s going on, but Louis Varland needs to be added in all formats in case the Blue Jays do decide to give Hoffman a break from closing games.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #70
Orioles recalled RHP Jose Espada from Triple-A Norfolk
With Ryan Helsley on the Bereavement List, the Orioles needed another bullpen arm, so they’ll give Espada a shot.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #21
Orioles placed RHP Ryan Helsley on the bereavement/family medical emergency List.
We’re wishing Helsley and his family the best. It’s unclear how long the Orioles will be without their closer, but he will certainly miss Wednesday’s game. Rico Garcia has also pitched in each of the last two games, so it might be Yennier Cano who gets called on if there is a save opportunity on Wednesday.
  • ATH Right Fielder #32
Athletics recalled OF Colby Thomas from Triple-A Las Vegas
With Denzel Clarke (foot) landing on the IL, it will be Thomas who takes his place on the active roster. Thomas is hitting .309/.397/.574 in 78 plate appearances at Triple-A with five home runs and 19 RBI. The Athletics have only wanted to play him against left-handed pitching previously, but maybe he gets a shot at a bigger role this time.
  • ATH Center Fielder #1
Athletics placed OF Denzel Clarke on the 10-day injured list with a mid-foot bone bruise in his right foot.
Clarke has really struggled offensively to start the season, slashing .170/.228/.189 with a 40 percent strikeout rate. He plays elite defense in center field, but you have to wonder how long the Athletics will keep putting his bat in the lineup.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #54
Padres signed RHP Lucas Giolito to a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2027.
This had been rumored for a few days and is now official. Giolito claims that he is built up to 75 pitches, but he also ended last season on the injured list with flexor irritation, so we’ll need to see him throw on the mound before we get a true sense of how he looks. The Padres optioned him to High-A Lake Elsinore, but Giolito needs to be on the MLB roster in 25 days, which would be May 17th. He would figure to take Matt Waldron’s spot in the rotation by that time.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #46
Quinn Priester (shoulder) will begin his rehab assignment on Wednesday with Triple-A Nashville.
Priester was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome in spring training but was advised that he did not need surgery. He has been facing live hitters and will now begin what should be a lengthy rehab assignment. Even if Priester feels good and no longer has symptoms, we would expect him to make at least three starts in Triple-A since he never even got into a game during spring training.
  • TB Right Fielder #17
Jake Fraley (leg) is out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Reds.
The Rays are giving Fraley a day off today ahead of the team’s full day on Thursday in the hopes that two days off will allow him to be back in the lineup on Friday and avoid a trip to the injured list. The Rays are facing a left-hander on Wednesday anyway, so this works in their favor. Ryan Vilade will play right field and bat fourth with Jonny DeLuca in centerfield, batting fifth
