Seth Lugo was magnificent in Tuesday night’s victory over the Giants, scattering just three hits and three walks over 8 2/3 scoreless innings.
The 33-year-old hurler racked up seven strikeouts on the night. Lugo was in complete command from start to finish in this one, and it never felt like the Giants mounted a serious scoring threat against him. He tried valiantly to get the final out to record his first career shutout, but had to be lifted after allowing a walk and a single in the ninth. Lugo generated eight swings and misses on a career-high 123 pitches on the evening, registering a CSW of 24 percent. He concludes his strong 2023 campaign with an 8-7 record, 3.57 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 140/36 K/BB ratio over 146 11/3 innings in 26 starts. The right-hander holds a $7.5 million player option for the 2024 season and given how well he pitched this year there’s a chance he could turn that down and attempt to do better for himself on the open market.
