Braxton Garrett was tagged for four runs over four innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Mets.
Garrett took the ball for the opening contest of Wednesday’s twin bill and wound up surrendering homers to Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor, which accounted for all of the damage against him in this one. He struck out two and also issued a pair of walks. The 26-year-old southpaw is tentatively scheduled to take the ball for Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Pirates.

Royals recalled RHP Eli Morgan from Triple-A Omaha.
Morgan has been brought back to the big leagues to fortify Kansas City’s bullpen with starter Kris Bubic (elbow) hitting the injured list. The 30-year-old compiled a strong 2.61 ERA across 10 1/3 innings over seven appearances during a brief stint with the Royals last month.
Temper power expectations for Guerrero Jr.
After finally hitting his first home run of May, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s power outage to start the season could actually be a sign of things to come for the remainder of year, where he could finish with 20-25 home runs.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #50
Royals placed LHP Kris Bubic on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 15, with left elbow soreness.
It sounds like a precautionary decision by Kansas City after Bubic told reporters he experienced more soreness than usual following his last start against the White Sox where he allowed five runs over four innings. The 28-year-old lefty will undergo further evaluation, and likely imaging, to determine whether he’s dealing with anything from a structural standpoint. At a minimum, he’ll wind up missing at least a couple weeks.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #50
Guardians optioned RHP Codi Heuer to Triple-A Columbus.
Heuer pitched two innings for the Guardians while he was up. He should get another chance for innings this summer.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #43
Guardians activated RHP Shawn Armstrong (groin) from the 15- day injured list.
Armstrong been sidelined for almost a month with the injury. He should settle right back into a regular role in the middle innings for the Guardians.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #5
Caleb Durbin is not in the starting lineup for the Red Sox on Monday against the Royals.
Nick Sogard is playing third base and batting ninth on Monday. Despite Durbin’s struggles at the plate this season, he has been tremendous defensively for a Red Sox team that spent the off season adding ground ball pitchers to its rotation. As a result, we imagine this will be more of a mini reset for Durbin, rather than the Red Sox making a change at third base.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher
Yankees selected the contract of RHP Yovanny Cruz from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Cruz can hit 102 mph on his fastball and does have a 3.00 ERA and 29 percent strikeout rate this season. However, he has struggled in May, allowing five runs on nine hits in seven innings while walking six and striking out six.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #71
Yankees optioned RHP Elmer Rodríguez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Rodríguez can’t be recalled in the next 15 days unless he replaces an injured player, so that appears to take him out of the running to start this weekend. What the Yankees will do in that spot remains to be seen since they have said Gerrit Cole (elbow) will make one more rehab start.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #71
Rays placed RHP Cole Sulser on the 15-day injured list with a low back strain.
Sulser has a 3.68 ERA, 1.36 ERA, and 16/9 K/BB ratio in 22 innings out of the Rays’ bullpen. He will likely be sidelined for a few weeks.
  • TB Starting Pitcher
Rays recalled RHP Chase Solesky from Triple-A Durham.
Solesky was recalled by the Rays back on May 5th and then was sent back down just three days later without pitching. He’ll get another chance out of the Rays bullpen this week.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #36
Rays activated RHP Joe Boyle (elbow) from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Durham.
Boyle has been rehabbing at Triple-A while recovering from an elbow strain. In three starts, he has allowed five runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings with an 8/7 K/BB ratio. He’ll continue to stretch out and work on his command at Triple-A.
