Cubs SS prospect James Triantos was named as the Offensive Player of the Year in the Arizona Fall League on Saturday.
The 20-year-old infielder has been an outstanding table-setter for the Mesa Solar Sox this fall, slashing .417/.495/.679 with three long balls, 15 RBI, nine stolen bases and 18 runs scored in 99 plate appearances. Triantos — a second-round pick from the 2021 draft — hit .287/.364/.391 with four homers, 48 RBI and 16 swipes over 83 games during the 2023 season, primarily at High-A South Bend. Expect him to begin the 2024 campaign as the starting shortstop at Double-A Tennessee.

Yankees optioned RHP Luis Gil to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
It’s not a huge surprise, but it’s still noteworthy. The 27-year-old didn’t fool the Houston hitters at all Sunday while allowing six runs over four-plus innings, and the Yankees will have Carlos Rodón available to them shortly. There’s still some long-term upside in Gil — he just had a 6 1/3 scoreless outing the game before — but he’s safe to drop in redraft formats.
Angels pile it on with four-run second inning
Adam Frazier and Zach Neto did the heavy lifting with no outs to build the Angels' lead over the Royals, with Jorge Soler's RBI double capping off Los Angeles' big second inning on Sunday Night Baseball.
  • TOR Right Fielder #12
Jesús Sánchez went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday’s 4-2 victory over the Guardians.
Sánchez’s homer was a two-run blast off Slade Cecconi that put Toronto up for good. Acquired from the Astros right before the season, Sánchez has hit cleanup against 15 consecutive right-handers the Blue Jays have faced. It’s a seven-game week coming up, but up to three lefties could be on tap and he’s in a strict platoon.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #46
Patrick Corbin received a no-decision on Sunday against the Guardians, allowed two runs on six hits over 4 2/3 frames.
Corbin struck out four and walked two in the 84-pitch effort, which the Jays went on to win 4-2. The veteran left-hander nearly got through five innings of one-run ball before giving up an RBI double to Angel Martínez that ended his day. Corbin has now made four starts for Toronto since debuting with the club on April 10th. His next start lines up for a road tilt in Minnesota.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #77
Louis Varland picked up his third career save on Sunday against the Guardians, striking out two in a scoreless ninth while allowing one hit.
Varland threw 15-of-20 pitches for strikes. The outing comes one day after he earned a 30-pitch save, so he could be unavailable for a day or two. Varland now has each of the Blue Jays’ past three saves, and Jeff Hoffman has been officially removed from the closer role. The manager hasn’t named a successor, but his actions continue to point to Varland. Hoffman logged a scoreless eighth in the victory.
  • HOU 1st Baseman #8
Christian Walker finished 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and four RBI in the Astros’ 7-4 win over the Yankees on Sunday.
Walker and Isaac Paredes combined to drive in all seven Houston runs, with Walker knocking in Paredes three times. It’s hard not to wonder where this version of Walker was last year in his first season with Houston. He’s batting .291/.373/.573 with seven homers and 23 RBI through 29 games.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #41
Spencer Arrighetti limited the Yankees to one run and three hits in seven innings and struck out eight in a victory Sunday.
Aaron Judge’s homer was the only damage. Arrighetti had just nine whiffs today, which is a pretty modest total for an eight-strikeout game. However, his CSW was 33 percent. He gave up nine hard-hit balls, most of them flies, but the Yankees got just under too many of the pitches and wound up with several 300-foot flyouts. Arrighetti improved to 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA. His control remains subpar, which is a particularly bad quality for a flyball pitcher, but it’s fine to ride him for now. He’ll face the Red Sox next weekend.
  • TOR 3rd Baseman #22
Ernie Clement went 1-for-4 with a run scored while hitting leadoff on Sunday against the Guardians.
Clement has started all 27 games for the Blue Jays this season and has hit first or second in eight straight. The move up the order coincided with George Springer’s trip to the injured list, so there’s no guarantee it lasts. The 2025 postseason hero has become the team’s everyday second baseman while still mixing in reps at shortstop and third base.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #65
Brought in with a 7-1 lead in the ninth, Enyel De Los Santos gave up three runs before finishing off the Yankees on Sunday.
De Los Santos hadn’t pitched in four days and the Astros are off tomorrow, so the idea was to get him some work today. Well, he got some, giving up four hits before José Caballero lined out to third to end the game. All seven batters he faced put the ball in play against him, and three of those balls topped 102 mph. De Los Santos and Bryan King, who pitched a scoreless eighth today, are the Astros’ preferred options in the final two innings right now, and this probably helps King’s stock a bit.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #81
Luis Gil surrendered six runs in four-plus innings Sunday in a loss to the Astros.
Gil had good velocity today, but he induced just three missed swings and finished with no strikeouts. He also walked three. It seemed like he was in line to make one more start next weekend against Baltimore before Carlos Rodón’s return, but that might change after the weak showing today.
  • HOU 3rd Baseman #15
Isaac Paredes had a two-run homer and an RBI single Sunday against the Yankees.
Paredes didn’t need Daikin’s assistance for his third homer, as it was a 364-footer to left that would have been out of all 30 parks. Paredes needs to keep producing to assure that he remains something close to a full-timer after Jeremy Peña returns. He has three homers in six games after going the first 3 1/2 weeks without one.
