Yankees acquired OF Brian Sánchez from the Brewers in the Jake Bauers trade.
Sánchez made his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League and posted a promising .297/.414/.446 batting line in 128 plate appearances. He’s only 19 years old and qualifies as a lottery ticket for the Yankees.

Miami Marlins named Clayton McCullough as their new manager.
The move was rumored over the weekend and now it has become official. The 44-year-old McCullough spent the past four seasons as the Dodgers’ first base coach under Dave Roberts and spent six years before that as the club’s minor league field coordinator. McCullough has interviewed for managerial jobs before and was a finalist for the Kansas City Royals managing job that went to Matt Quatraro two years ago. He will be tasked with taking over a Marlins team that just lost 100 games in the 2024 season.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that Wander Franco was arrested today in the Dominican Republic “after an altercation during which guns were drawn.”
Franco was arrested Monday in San Juan de la Maguana, 100 miles west of Santo Domingo “after what two police sources said was an altercation Sunday in the parking lot of an apartment complex in which guns were drawn.” He and an unnamed woman are being held for questioning. Franco is out on bail as he awaits trial for charges related to sexually abusing a 14-year-old. He is also under an MLB investigation under its domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy until the case is resolved.
  • NYY Center Fielder #89
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he fully expects OF Jasson Dominguez “to be a big part of of what we do this coming year.”
Many people expected Dominguez to be a big part of the Yankees in 2024 after he hit .314/.376/.504 in 58 minor league games with 11 home runs and 16 steals. Yet, Boone continued to play struggling Alex Verdugo in left field over Dominguez. With Verdugo and Juan Soto both free agents, there may be space for Dominguez in 2024, but it depends on how the roster shakes out. The 21-year-old has played 239 minor league games in center field but just 58 in left field and one in right field. If the Yankees re-sign Juan Soto, they would be forced to leave Aaron Judge in center and make Dominguez adapt to left field, where he has struggled in the past. If Soto were to leave in free agency, then Judge could move to right field and Dominguez could play his more natural center field.
  • NYY Second Baseman
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he expects 2B prospect Caleb Durbin to “play a big role next season.”
With Gleyber Torres hitting the free agent market, the Yankees could be looking to bring in a new second baseman in 2025. However, Caleb Durbin is making his case after hitting .275/.388/.451 across three levels in 2024, with 10 home runs and 31 steals in 90 games. He’s also currently on pace to tie or break the Arizona Fall League stolen base record. Even if Durbin isn’t named the starting second baseman, the 24-year-old has played three infield spots and two outfield positions this fall, so he could get into a lineup regularly thanks to his defensive versatility.
  • FA First Baseman #53
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported that “There are at least six teams who plan to aggressively pursue” Christian Walker.
Walker is 33 years old, which may impact the length of the deal he gets, but he’s also averaged 33 home runs over the last three years and has won three Gold Glove awards at first base. His defensive value and likely short-term contract potentially makes him a more intriguing fit for some teams than Pete Alonso, and Nightengale reports that the Yankees, Mets, Nationals, and Diamondbacks are among the teams vying for his services. Given his power production, moving to a hitter-friendly park could be good news for Walker’s fantasy value.
Where will Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Corbin Burnes sign this offseason?
  • LAD First Base Coach
Andrew Baggarly and Katie Woo of The Athletic report that the Marlins plan to hire Pedro Guerrero as their next hitting coach.
The Marlins have reportedly agreed to hire Dodgers’ first base coach Clayton McCullough to be their manager and it looks like he’s wasting no time in assembling his staff. Guerrero, 35, spent the past three seasons as an assistant hitting coach for the Giants. Prior to that, he served in the same role for the Phillies. In both roles, he was hired by manager Gabe Kapler — now the assistant general manager with the Marlins.
  • LAD First Base Coach
Alden Gonzalez of ESPN reports that the Marlins plan to name Dodgers’ first base coach Clayton McCullough as their next manager.
It’s the first managerial job for the 44-year-old, though he has interviewed for many openings over the past couple of seasons. McCullough spent the past four seasons as the Dodgers’ first base coach under Dave Roberts and spent six years prior to that as the club’s minor league field coordinator. He’ll take over the helm of a Marlins’ team that lost 100 games under Skip Schumaker during the 2024 campaign, so he’ll definitely have his work cut out for him. It wouldn’t be surprising if McCullough attempted to poach some of his Dodgers’ colleagues as he builds his staff over the next few weeks.
  • FA Shortstop #27
Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy told reporters on Sunday that he doesn’t expect the team to retain star shortstop Willy Adames.
The 29-year-old slugger is one of the top free agents available this winter and is going to land a highly lucrative contract that the Brewers to expect to be able to compete with. Murphy also noted that while the team has discussed sliding Brice Turang over from second base to fill that void, his inclination is to keep Turang at second base where he was just named as the Platinum Glove Award winner in the National League.
  • Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Rangers are closing in on a major league contract with free agent right-hander Luis Curvelo.
The 24-year-old has elected free agency after toiling in the minor leagues for the Mariners for the past six seasons. He was brilliant at Double-A Arkansas in 2024 — registering a 2.57 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and a 78/18 K/BB ratio over his 66 2/3 innings of work. Despite the fact that he has yet to play above Double-A ball, Curvelo has been a very popular name on the open market. The Rangers seem to think that he can jump right in and help their bullpen immediately.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #18
Tigers’ president of baseball operations Scott Harris told reporters during the GM meetings in San Antonio that Kenta Maeda “will have every opportunity” to earn a job in the club’s rotation in 2025.
The 36-year-old right-hander was moved to the bullpen in early July and spent the rest of the year functioning mainly in a bulk innings role. Maeda ultimately registered a troublesome 6.09 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 96/31 K/BB ratio over 112 1/3 innings in 29 appearances (17 starts) on the season. While the Tigers would like him to win a job, poor performance during the spring or in April could lead to another quick hook or ultimately his removal from the roster altogether.
