Gavin Williams delivered another dominant performance in Sunday’s start against the White Sox, striking out seven batters over 3 2/3 innings of shutout baseball.
Williams scattered just two hits and one walk during the impressive outing. He generated a whopping 16 swings and misses on 53 pitches on the day — 11 of them on his fastball — while registering an elite CSW of 42 percent. The 25-year-old hurler has been a revelation through his first three Cactus League outings, compiling a 1.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and a 16/2 K/BB ratio over eight innings. His draft stock has surged in recent weeks, now going just inside the top 200 players overall. Sunday’s brilliant outing will only add more fuel to that fire.

Nolan Schanuel (calf) said Tuesday that there’s a chance he’ll require a trip to the injured list.
Schanuel told reporters he tested his injured calf out prior to Tuesday’s game in Detroit and still wasn’t feeling well enough to return to the lineup. He’ll continue to rest and receive treatment, but there’s a chance he’ll wind up hitting the shelf if he’s unable to return later this week.
Cabrera's injury the latest blow to Cubs' rotation
James Schiano unpacks Edward Cabrera's trip to the injured list, evaluating his uneven production to this point and what his absence means for the Cubs' injury-riddled rotation.
  • TB Shortstop #6
Taylor Walls was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Orioles with left hamstring tightness.
It sounds like a precautionary move with the club saying Walls is day-to-day for now. It’ll be newly acquired Oliver Dunn taking over at shortstop and hitting ninth on Tuesday night at Camden Yards.
  • MIL Center Fielder #5
Garrett Mitchell (back) is in center field and hitting sixth on Tuesday against the Cardinals.
Mitchell has made three consecutive starts in center field, alleviating any lingering concerns for fantasy managers after missing time last week with back tightness. The 27-year-old remains one of the more intriguing talents in the game, but he’s striking out at an untenable clip, nearly 36 percent of the time this season, making him difficult to trust outside of extremely deep mixed leagues.
  • TEX 3rd Baseman #6
Josh Jung (shoulder) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Astros.
The Rangers could certainly use some additional firepower after being no-hit by the Astros during Monday’s series opener and struggling to score runs during a four-game losing streak. Jung is back at third base and hitting cleanup following a two-game absence due to left shoulder soreness. He’s ready to roll after a precautionary MRI came back clean for any structural damage. The 28-year-old has put together the start of a breakthrough campaign, slashing .302/.357/.462 with 22 runs scored, five homers, 21 RBI and one steal across 199 plate appearances over 48 games.
  • KC Center Fielder #15
Lane Thomas (hamstring) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Yankees.
Thomas returns to Kansas City’s lineup for the first time since May 19 after being limited by a relatively minor hamstring issue. The 30-year-old is in left field and hitting sixth on Tuesday night at Kauffmann Stadium.
  • HOU Center Fielder #26
Astros activated OF Taylor Trammell from the 10-day injured list.
Trammell rejoins Houston’s outfield mix for Tuesday’s game against the Rangers following a five-week absence recovering from a left groin strain. The 28-year-old figures to occupy a reserve outfield role with the Astros moving forward.
  • HOU Left Fielder #16
Astros optioned OF Zach Cole to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Cole returns to the minors after hitting .157 (8-for-51) with three homers and eight RBI in 53 plate appearances over 18 games during his latest stint with the Astros. It’ll be Taylor Trammell coming off the injured list to take his roster spot.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #29
Tarik Skubal (elbow) faced hitters on Tuesday in a 40-pitch live batting practice session.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said previously that Skubal will make at least one minor league rehab start before returning to Detroit’s rotation. He’ll throw a bullpen session later this week before facing hitters again in another live batting practice session before the club determines his next steps. It’s theoretically possible he could be ready to pitch in the majors at some point in mid-June based on his present trajectory.
  • NYY Shortstop #11
Anthony Volpe is at shortstop and hitting eighth on Tuesday against the Royals.
The plot thickens. Volpe continues to produce, which is going to make it challenging for the Yankees to take his name off the lineup card. It’s not necessarily a bad problem at the moment since it buys José Caballaro, who is on the bench in this one, a little bit of time off as he returns from a fractured finger. Volpe went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI during Monday’s series opener and has shown some positive signs in nine games since making his season debut earlier this month.
  • MIA Right Fielder #17
Owen Caissie is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Blue Jays.
Caissie takes a seat against Blue Jays reliever Spencer Miles with Kyle Stowers moving over to right field. The 23-year-old former top prospect has shown some signs of life recently, hitting .270 (10-for-37) with two homers, 11 RBI and two steals over his last 15 games. He’ll need to show some additional consistency before fantasy managers in shallow mixed leagues are encouraged to consider rostering him.
