Royals acquired INF/OF Nick Gordon from the Orioles for cash considerations.
Gordon will augment Kansas City’s organizational depth at Triple-A Omaha. He signed a minor league contract last month with the Orioles, but didn’t make the club’s season-opening roster. The 29-year-old has gotten into 338 games in the big leagues dating back to 2021. He’s not a fantasy-relevant contributor at this stage of his career.

Carlos Rodón allowed just one earned run in six innings against the Guardians on Thursday, striking out seven.
Only two batters actually notched a hit against Rodón, including an RBI single off the bat of Stuart Fairchild in the fourth inning. Rodon got whiffs on 38 percent of swings against him, with his velocity playing close to a mile per hour up from his seasonal average. An unfortunate no-decision here, but Rodón should be started with confidence against the Guardians in a run-it-back start next week.
Tolle making a name for himself
Red Sox pitcher Payton Tolle is displaying the stuff to be a strong fantasy baseball option.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #44
Slade Cecconi threw six innings against the Yankees on Thursday, striking out four while allowing just one earned run.
It was a Judge-less Yankees outfit, but this is a pretty good result for Cecconi. He did get some help from an inning-ending double play in the fourth inning, when the Guardians hit the cutoff man on a sacrifice fly and threw out Jose Caballero at third base. Still, Cecconi was getting plenty of whiffs with his cutter and curveall -- nine in 23 swings -- and looked good in lowering his season ERA to 4.92. He’ll be tasked with another start against the Yankees next week, and assuming Judge isn’t back yet, would probably be a decent-if-unexciting stream option.
  • PHI Center Fielder #91
Justin Crawford went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base while scoring two runs in Philadelphia’s 6-4 win over the Padres on Thursday.
Crawford has started to get the green light more over the past couple of weeks -- he’s now up to eight stolen bases in 56 games, which isn’t nothing. The two-hit attack ups his line to .232/.295/.339. He’d probably need to start stealing much more to be a fantasy baseball factor, but his defense and speed seem to have assured his lineup spot for the time being.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #3
Bryce Harper went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in Philadelphia’s win over the Padres on Thursday.
Harper’s lone hit went down as a liner to Padres catcher Felix Fermin in the scorebook -- he hit it off Padres LHP Adrian Morejon. Harper came around to score on an Alex Bohm single, and was also robbed in the first inning by Bryce Johnston near the foul line. Hitting .259 with an .872 OPS, Harper has rebounded well from a bit of a production dip last year.
  • SD 3rd Baseman #13
Manny Machado hit a two-run home run in San Diego’s loss to the Phillies on Thursday.
Neat. Machado is in such a deep funk that he’s hit a ghastly .126 in his last 30 games -- but he’s somehow still slugging .333 with seven homers over that timespan. We hope you can stomach the average at one of fantasy baseball’s weaker positions. It has not been pretty for Machado this year. Even the underlying Baseball Savant page is full of blue, suggesting he’s only underperforming his .270 wOBA by about 42 points. He’s walking more, but that’s about the only thing going well for Machado this year through two months and change.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #55
Lucas Giolito threw four innings against the Phillies on Thursday, allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out five.
It could have been worse! Giolito reined in his control issues a bit, and he actually managed whiffs on 14 of 33 swings, including seven of eight swings on his slider, while allowing just four hard-hit balls. He could not quite hit five-and-dive as he was pulled with nobody out in the fifth after allowing an Adolis García home run and Justin Crawford double. Yuki Matsui bravely bailed out the Crawford run from the earned column with an errant pickoff throw. This was broadly encouraging but we’re not quite ready to recommend him against the Reds next week.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #45
Zach Wheeler went seven strong innings against the Padres, notching a win and eight strikeouts while allowing just two runs.
Wheeler carried a no-hitter into the sixth, but gave up a little outfield bloop single to Bryce Johnson, and, later in the seventh, a two-run homer to Manny Machado. Those were the only hits he allowed, lowering his ERA to 2.31. After struggling with his velocity in his rehab from thoracic outlet syndrome, Wheeler has emerged as a league-winning upside pick. He’ll take on the Jays in his next start, and fantasy managers should keep dialing Wheeler up until they hear otherwise.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #43
Blue Jays designated RHP Tanner Andrews for assignment.
The 30-year-old will likely clear waivers and return to Triple-A Buffalo as a depth piece. Andrews managed three scoreless innings in two games with the Jays in his major-league debut. Hopefully that can be a stepping stone for another promotion in the summer.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #70
Blue Jays optioned RHP Hayden Juenger to Triple-A Buffalo.
He allowed three earned runs in two innings with the Jays in his first MLB action, walking two and striking out none. He’ll likely be back at some point on the Buffalo/Toronto shuttle when the Jays need a fresh arm.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #73
Blue Jays selected the contract of RHP Chad Dallas from Triple-A Buffalo.
Dallas will pitch in a bulk role behind opener LHP Mason Fluharty tonight against the Braves. Going up against Chris Sale and a good Braves offense, we would not recommend chasing this start even in deeper leagues.
