Cubs activated RHP Javier Assad from the 60-day injured list.
Nate Pearson was sent down last night to make room. Assad, who will get the start against the Blue Jays tonight over the previously announced Ben Brown, is finally ready to go again after suffering an oblique strain in February and experiencing a setback while on a rehab assignment in April. He had allowed two earned runs over 11 innings in his three recent rehab starts.

Phillies sent INF Rafael Lantigua outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Lantigua sipped a quick cup of coffee with the Phillies during the final month of the regular season, but ended up being shipped back to the minors before making his big-league debut. The 27-year-old infielder should be able to latch on somewhere as organizational depth this offseason.
Kershaw: 'I'm just glad I got that last out'
Clayton Kershaw talks about how happy he was to end his career with a World Series win, if he was nervous pitching in relief during Game 3, what his retirement plans are, if he considered playing another year and more.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #59
Orioles exercised the one-year, $9 million club option on RHP Andrew Kittredge for 2026.
It was a fait accompli once Baltimore re-acquired the veteran setup man earlier this week in a trade with the Cubs. The 35-year-old high-leverage specialist gives the Orioles another late-inning option while hard-throwing closer Félix Bautista continues his recovery from elbow surgery.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #81
Tigers claimed RHP Jack Little off waivers from the Pirates.
Little heads to Detroit as organizational relief depth after being jettisoned from Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster earlier this week. the 27-year-old righty made two relief appearances for the Dodgers this past season in his first taste of the majors.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #66
Angels claimed RHP Cody Laweryson off waivers from the Twins.
Laweryson, a 2019 14th-round pick, made his major league debut in September and allowed one earned run and no walks in 7 2/3 innings for the Twins. He’s not a very hard thrower at 91-95 mph, but he’s solid relief depth for the Angels.
  • COL General Manager
Paul DePodesta has a “strong chance” of becoming the Rockies’ new head of baseball operations, according to MLB.com’s Thomas Harding.
The New York Post’s John Sherman says it’s a done deal. DePodesta, part of the Moneyball A’s in the early part of the century, has spent the last 10 years working for the Cleveland Browns as their chief strategy officer. He also spent 2004 and ’05 as the Dodgers’ GM in the Frank McCourt days and worked for the Padres and Mets for a time. Bringing him back to baseball after such a long time away would seem to be a risky move, but it’s not like things can get any worse in Colorado.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #82
Marlins sent RHP Christian Roa and INF Jack Winkler outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Roa, a former Reds prospect, pitched three scoreless innings for the Marlins and had a 2.83 ERA in 60 1/3 innings for Jacksonville last season. Both he and Winkler have been outrighted before, so they can become free agents.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #99
Red Sox designated RHP Luis Guerrero for assignment.
Guerrero, 25, has nice swing-and-miss potential, but he just hasn’t shown he can throw enough strikes to make an impact. He had a 4.15 ERA in 17 1/3 innings as a rookie for the Red Sox last season, but that came with a hideous 10/14 K/BB. Even in the minors, he walked 26 in 31 innings. Despite that, it’s hard to imagine that he’ll clear waivers, especially since he has a couple of option years remaining.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #66
Marlins claimed RHP Zack Brzycky off waivers from the Nationals.
Brzycky, 26, gave up 23 earned runs in 23 innings for the Nationals last season, lowering his career ERA from 14.29 to 10.05. Subpar command of average stuff makes him seem like a pretty weak bet going forward.
  • LAD Left Fielder
Dodgers selected the contract of OF Ryan Ward from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Ward was one of the PCL’s best hitters last season, coming in at .290/.380/.557 with 36 homers and 122 RBI for the Comets, and some wanted the Dodgers to give him a chance in Michael Conforto’s place. That left field spot is open now, but the Dodgers figure to go shopping rather than rely on their internal options. Ward’s best hope of getting a shot is probably still a trade.
  • WSH 3rd Baseman #38
Nationals sent INF Trey Lipscomb outright to Triple-A Rochester.
Lipscomb, a 2022 third-round pick, got high praise from the Nationals going into the 2024 season and won a roster spot after just 152 games as a pro. Unfortunately, he’s mostly struggled since; he wound up hitting .200/.268/.232 in 61 major league games that season and he finished at .249/.305/.392 in Triple-A in 2025. He’s still just 25, but no one deemed him worth claiming off waivers. It’s his first outright assignment, so he’ll remain with the Nationals.
