Braves optioned RHP Hurston Waldrep to the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.
It’s merely a procedural move since Waldrep made his final regular-season start earlier this week against the Nationals, striking out five and allowing one run over six innings. The 23-year-old was outstanding during the second half of the season after making a mechanical tweak at Triple-A to improve his fastball command, finishing with a sparkling 2.88 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 55/22 K/BB ratio over 56 1/3 innings over 10 appearances (nine starts). He’ll be an extremely popular sleeper candidate in fantasy drafts next spring.

Max Scherzer said, “his forearm isn’t responding the way he hoped.”
The veteran said he plans to talk to more doctors and “figure things out from there.” His ankle is progressing well, but the forearm is a far bigger concern for a starting pitcher. As of now, it doesn’t seem like his return is imminent.
Sabathia: Yankees are a 'cut above' rest of AL
CC Sabathia breaks down the Yankees' impressive start to the season and New York's decision to option shortstop Anthony Volpe to Triple-A.
  • SF 2nd Baseman #1
Luis Arraez remains out of the starting lineup on Wednesday with hand soreness.
The Giants are off on Thursday, so the Giants will sit Arraez for the second straight game in the hopes that he’s ready to go on Friday. Casey Schmitt will start at second base and bat third with Bryce Eldridge in the lineup at designated hitter.
  • MIL Center Fielder #5
Garrett Mitchell was scratched from Wednesday’s starting lineup with an illness.
We knew Mitchell had been scratched, but now we know why. The Brewers are off on Thursday and face a left-hander on Friday, so Mitchell could return to action on Saturday against the Yankees.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #68
Erik Miller (back) is throwing a bullpen on Wednesday and will pitch for Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.
Miller was just placed on the injured list on Monday with a lower back strain, but he is already throwing and will be out on a rehab assignment quickly. He should return to the Giants when first eligible next week, which may put a little bit of a damper on the excitement about Caleb Kilian in fantasy leagues. Those two could share saves as part of a committee in San Francisco.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #7
Blake Snell will make a rehab start on Saturday for Low-A Ontario
Snell threw 38 pitches in his previous rehab start, so he should be up over 50 pitches in this one. Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reported that this could be Snell’s last rehab start, but that would mean that Snell would likely be around 60 pitches when he makes his season debut with the Dodgers. This is a situation to monitor after his start this weekend.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #61
Angels optioned LHP Sam Aldegheri to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Aldegheri threw four innings on Tuesday, allowing two runs on four hits. He will head back to Triple-A in order to allow the Angels to get a fresh arm back into the bullpen. The left-hander will get another chance shortly.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #47
Angels activated RHP Alek Manoah (finger) from the 15-day injured list.
Manoah will be active out of the bullpen on Wednesday, and it remains to be seen if he’s an option to take Yusei Kikuchi’s (shoulder) place in the rotation. The 28-year-old Manoah has been working his way back from a finger contusion he suffered in spring training and will pitch in his first MLB innings since 2024 when he does get into a game.
  • ATL Shortstop
Braves recalled SS Jim Jarvis from Triple-A Gwinnett
Jarvis was hitting .305/.418/.445 with four home runs, 25 runs scored, 20 RBI, and 15 steals in 33 Triple-A games. The 25-year-old will also start at shortstop and bat ninth on Wednesday in his MLB debut. With Mauricio Dubon now playing the outfield while Ronald Acuna Jr. (hamstring) is on the IL, there is a chance for Jarvis to carve out some playing time. However, Ha-Seong Kim (finger) is also close to a return.
  • ATL Left Fielder #28
Braves designated OF José Azocar for assignment.
With Michael Harris II (quad) feeling better, the Braves are going with a reserve infielder instead of another outfielder. Azocar was playing well in Triple-A, hitting .270/.348/.420 with a pair of homers, 11 RBI, and eight stolen bases in his first 113 plate appearances. He could return to the Braves on a minor league contract if he clears waivers.
  • MIL Center Fielder #5
Garrett Mitchell has been scratched from Wednesday’s starting lineup against the Cardinals.
There’s no word yet on why. Sal Frelick is now leading off, Jackson Chourio moves to center field, and Tyler Black is in the lineup in left field.
