Padres signed RHP Jason Adam to a one-year, $6.675 million deal to avoid arbitration.

Adam secures a nice pay raise over the $4.8 million that he took home in 2025. The 34-year-old hurler delivered another dominant season in his first full year with the Padres, compiling a 1.93 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 70/25 K/BB ratio over 65 1/3 innings before a ruptured quad tendon ended his season prematurely at the beginning of September. He’ll function in a setup capacity in front of Mason Miller once again in 2026, limiting his overall fantasy appeal.

Lane Thomas went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run against the Padres on Saturday.

Thomas’ home run was his ninth of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Griffin Canning in the first inning. Thomas now has four home runs in 13 games in July and eight of his nine home runs this season have come since June 1. The 30-year-old outfielder is more known for his speed than his power, though he only has four stolen bases this year. Thomas is hitting .243 with a .765 OPS and 34 RBI.

Griffin Canning allowed four runs in 3 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Royals on Saturday.

Canning gave up five hits, walked two and struck out four. He fell to 1-8 with the loss. Canning’s day got off to a rough start as he allowed a two-run home run to Lane Thomas in the first inning. He also allowed single runs in the third and fourth inning. Canning has a 6.67 ERA in 11 starts. He’s off the fantasy radar for his start on the road against the Braves next week.

The Yankees signed No. 63 selection Sean Duncan to a $2,497,500 signing bonus.

That’s a little over a million over the allocated slot bonus of $1,451,700 that comes with the 63rd selection. Duncan is a product of Canada, and is widely considered one of the best southpaw pitching prospects in the class. He doesn’t turn 19 until next May, so there’s a good chance he won’t be ready for the majors for several seasons. He’s certainly a name to keep an eye on in dynasty/keeper formats, however.

Randy Dobnak allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Royals’ 6-1 victory over the Padres on Saturday.

Dobnak gave up four hits, walked four and struck out three. He now has a 1.93 ERA in three starts for the Royals, though his 5.02 xFIP points to this run being unsustainable. It’s unclear if he’s going to remain in the rotation.

Christian Walker exited Saturday’s game against the Orioles with right hip soreness.

Walker appeared to grab his side while taking a swing against the Orioles, and it turns out the hip was the hailment. There’s a good chance he’ll be out of the lineup for the finale against Baltimore on Sunday, but there should be further updates on his status before that contest.

Jeremy Peña left Saturday’s game against the Orioles with a right hamstring cramp.

The Astros lost both Peña and Christian Walker (hip) to injury during Saturday’s game. The shortstop will likely undergo more evaluation, but if it’s just cramping, there’s a good chance he’s back in the lineup relatively soon, even if he misses Sunday’s finale against Baltimore.

Sean Manaea allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Phillies on Saturday.

Manaea gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out seven. He fell to 2-5 with the loss. Manaea ran into trouble immediately, allowing a single to Trea Turner and a two-run home run to Kyle Schwarber before recording his first out. It didn’t get much better from there as Manaea allowed another home run, this one to Turner in the fifth inning. In seven starts since moving into the rotation, he has a 4.48 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings. Manaea is lined up to face the Dodgers at home next weekend.
