Garrett pitched two innings in his spring debut last week, so it was a little surprising he exited after just 26 pitches today. He again pitched well, although his velocity wasn’t quite as good as last week; his fastball averaged 92.3 mph, which was down from 93.0 on Thursday but still up 1.2 mph from when he was last seen in 2024.

Castro has been dealing with a lingering hand issue after being hit by a pitch earlier this week. Edouard Julien takes over at second base to face Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan. It’s possible Castro winds up requiring a trip to the injured list if he’s not ready to go by the end of the weekend.

José Buttó

SF Relief Pitcher #70

José Buttó underwent surgery Friday to remove a blood clot from his right armpit and will miss 5-6 months.

Buttó made the revelation on his Instagram page, adding that it was an extremely rare surgery for an athlete to address a blood clot in his armpit that was limiting his mobility and causing pain while he pitched. The official timeline comes from a team statement. The positive news is that Buttó is in recovery but he’s highly likely to miss the remainder of the season.

Astros claimed OF Dustin Harris off waivers from the White Sox.

Harris fortifies Houston’s outfield depth after Joey Loperfido left Friday’s game with quad tightness. The Astros are familiar with Harris since he spent more than a half-decade in the minors between the division-rival Rangers and Athletics earlier in his career. The 26-year-old profiles as a quality reserve outfielder but is unlikely to carve out a full-time role at this stage of his development.

France loses his spot on Houston’s 40-man roster with the club claiming young outfielder Dustin Harris off waivers. The 31-year-old righty returned to the big leagues last week, and wound up allowing six runs over 6 2/3 innings of work over three relief appearances. He’s likely to pass through waivers unclaimed given his struggles since undergoing shoulder surgery back in 2024.

Kyle Stowers (hamstring) will be activated to make his season debut on Sunday against the Brewers.

Stowers will rejoin Miami’s lineup as their everyday left fielder following a three-week absence at the outset of the season while recovering from a hamstring strain. The 28-year-old corner outfielder wrapped up a minor league rehab assignment on Friday night with Triple-A Jacksonville, finishing 3-for-17 over five games. He should be rostered in all fantasy formats following last year’s impressive 25-homer breakthrough campaign.

Brewers recalled RHP Carlos Rodriguez from Triple-A Nashville.

Rodriguez bolsters Milwaukee’s bullpen as a long relief option heading into Saturday’s showdown against the Marlins. The 24-year-old swingman made four relief appearances last year and has been hit pretty hard in three outings at Triple-A Nashville this season. He did look sharp while pitching for Nicaragua during last month’s World Baseball Classic.

Brewers optioned RHP Coleman Crow to Triple-A Nashville.

Crow seems destined to be a Statcast darling, thanks to the extreme spin rates on his sweeper, which is typically north of 3,000 rpm. The 25-year-old performed admirably in his major-league debut on Friday, allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings against the Marlins. He struck out four and only issued one walk. He should get a more look at some point later this season but might make sense out of the bullpen for Milwaukee considering their starting pitching depth.
