Mike Burrows struck out six and allowed two runs over five innings in a win over the Red Sox on Wednesday.
Burrows threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of 24 batters today and wound up generating 14 whiffs on 41 swings. The Angels got to him pretty good his first time out last week, but he tweaked things today by throwing 22 curves and only four sliders. In his first start, it was the complete opposite; he threw 28 sliders and seven curves while giving up five runs. Burrows will make his next start in Colorado versus the Rockies. Since Coors Field usually isn’t a big factor in April, he rates as a decent play in that one.

Marcus Semien is leading off against the Twins on Tuesday.
Semien is getting the nod at the top spot with Francisco Lindor moving down to second. This doesn’t seem so much a promotion based on good work by Semien — he’s hitting just .234 with a .606 OPS — as it is a shaking up of the lineup for a team that hasn’t won a game since April 7.
Expect closer by committee with Diaz sidelined
With Edwin Diaz sidelined for multiple months, Eric Samulski highlights which Dodger arms fantasy managers should have their eyes on and why Tanner Scott could get the "majority" of save opportunities.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #78
Red Sox recalled RHP Tyler Samaniego from Triple-A Worcester.
Sameniego is up to give the Red Sox some bullpen help. The 27-year-old likely will be sent back down when the Red Sox need a new rotation arm, so this likely will be a short stay.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #54
Red Sox placed RHP Sonny Gray on the 15-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
Gray will be out at least a couple of weeks with the strain, but there’s a good chance the 36-year-old will need more than the minimum stint before being activated. Tyler Samaniego will take Gray’s spot on the active roster, but it’ll likely be Payton Tolle — one of the top pitching prospects in baseball — who takes his spot in the rotation.
  • COL Right Fielder #2
Tyler Freeman (illness) is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres.
Freeman was removed from Monday’s game against the Dodgers due to illness, and the 26-year-old will get another day off in the series opener against San Diego. Jordan Beck and Mickey Moniak make up the corner outfielders for Tuesday’s game.
  • CLE 1st Baseman #8
Rhys Hoskins is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Astros.
Hoskins will get a day off with Chase DeLauter serving as the designated hitter and George Valera getting the start in right.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #41
Rockies designated LHP Luis Peralta for assignment.
It clears room on the 40-man roster for Blas Castaño, who was claimed off waivers from the Mariners on Tuesday. Peralta will now hit the waiver wire, and if he goes unclaimed, he’ll likely report back to Triple-A Albuquerque.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #62
Rockies claimed RHP Blas Castaño off waivers from the Mariners.
Castaño was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. The 27-year-old will provide some depth and likely get a chance at some point to help the Colorado bullpen. Good luck.
  • NYM Right Fielder #22
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Mets plan on reinstating Juan Soto (calf) off the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Soto has missed the majority of April while recovering from his strained right calf, and the Mets have clearly missed the slugger over the past few weeks. The 27-year-old may get some days off to stay fresh and avoid an aggravation, but fantasy managers need to be prepared to have Soto in their lineup starting Wednesday.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #60
Twins recalled LHP Kendry Rojas from Triple-A St. Paul.
Rojas is up with Kody Funderburk officially placed on the paternity list. The 23-year-old will make his MLB debut if/when he gets a chance to pitch in the next week.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #57
Twins placed LHP Kody Funderburk on the paternity list.
Funderburk will be away from the team for up to three days. Kendry Rojas is up to take his spot on the roster.
