The first inning included four hits, a HBP, a walk and little defensive help. Lux, on the IL with a shoulder impingement, was finally showing signs of life today, doubling twice in the first game of a doubleheader. He had been 1-for-24 through seven games. The injury came in the second game tonight while he was running out a grounder.

Mountcastle fell to his side after hitting a double, and he was unable to continue. The 29-year-old was only in because of Adley Rutschman’s ankle injury, and it appears Baltimore may have another player that won’t be available. The specifics of Mountcastle’s injury should be made public soon.

Soderstrom had a breakthrough game at the plate on Saturday, starting with a two-run blast off Kodai Senga in the third inning. He added a base hit in the fourth, then padded the A’s lead with a three-run blast off Luke Weaver in the eighth for his second homer of the game and first two of the season. It was only a matter of time for the 24-year-old slugger to get going.

Bichette had an excellent day at the plate, starting with a base hit in the first inning to put the Mets on the board with a run. He then drew a walk in the third before taking Jacob Lopez deep for a two-run blast in the fifth for his first home run as a Met. Bichette drew another walk in the seventh to reach for a fourth time. The 28-year-old third baseman is hitting .250/.300/.328 with nine RBI over his first 70 plate appearances.

Polanco returned to the lineup after sitting out the previous two games. He was hitless over his first three plate appearances before leading off the seventh with a solo homer off Justin Sterner. It was Polanco’s first of the season with the Mets. The 32-year-old slugger has been working through an Achilles issue. Saturday’s blast was certainly an encouraging sign.

After a scoreless first inning, Senga issued a walk with the bases loaded in the second to bring in a run for the A’s. A groundout would plate a second before Senga got out of the inning. The A’s got to him again in the third. Tyler Soderstrom took him deep for a two-run blast before Carlos Cortes knocked Senga out of the game following a three-run homer. The 33-year-old left-hander ends the day with a bloated 7.07 ERA and 19 strikeouts over 14 innings across three starts. He’ll look to bounce back in a start against the Cubs in Chicago on Friday.

A pair of base hits put the Mets on the board with a run in the first inning. Lopez kept the Mets from scoring again until the fifth, when Bo Bichette took him deep for a two-run blast. Francisco Alvarez added a run on a solo homer in the sixth. Lopez walked the following batter and departed at 96 pitches without recording an out in the sixth. The 28-year-old left-hander struck out five. Lopez ends the day with a 6.75 ERA, 2.18 WHIP, and an 11/13 K/BB ratio across 13 1/3 innings. He’ll take on the Rangers in Sacramento on Thursday.

De La Cruz knocked a base hit in the first, stole second, then scored the first run of the game on a single. He added a pair of doubles in the fourth and sixth before walking and collecting his second steal in the eighth. The 24-year-old shortstop is filling all categories early, with four homers and five steals while slashing .271/.358/.525 across 67 plate appearances.
