Even if Fernando Tatis Jr. functioning as a backup second baseman does make it a little more workable to have Castellanos, Miguel Andujar and Ty France all on the roster together, it’s still not going to make sense for the Padres to stick with this arrangement forever, especially since Luis Campusano might be a better right-handed DH than any of them. At this point, Castellanos seems like the obvious choice to get the boot if the Padres want to add a little more versatility. He’s just 7-for-43 with three doubles and no RBI.

Donovan hit the shelf with a relatively minor groin strain last week and could be activated for Friday’s series opener against the Royals once Seattle returns home from their current road trip. The 29-year-old infielder was off to an excellent start in his Mariners debut, hitting .304/.437/.518 with three homers, eight RBI and one steal through 18 games.

Barco provides Pittsburgh with some additional length out in relief following Monday’s bullpen game against the Cardinals. The 25-year-old southpaw was hit hard in four relief outings earlier this season, but continues to dominate at the Triple-A level. He’s an interesting prospect to keep on radar screens, but he he can safely ignored in all fantasy formats for now.

This certainly qualifies as a surprise after Dotel spun four perfect innings during a bulk relief appearance against the Cardinals on Monday. The 23-year-old rookie has vastly outperformed expectations with a microscopic 1.35 ERA and 4/3 K/BB ratio across 6 2/3 innings over three appearances this season. He’ll presumably be back at some point in a couple weeks when the Pirates need some long relief depth.

Caminero left the contest shortly after fouling a ball off home plate that bounced up and struck him on the right side of the face. He managed to stay in to complete the at-bat, but immediately went down the tunnel with a trainer afterwards and was replaced at third base by Richie Palacios. He finished 0-for-1. The 22-year-old superstar will head for X-rays to determine whether he suffered any fractures. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

As expected, Ohtani will pitch exclusively on Tuesday evening at Dodger Stadium. Dalton Rushing is at DH and will occupy the leadoff spot in his absence. The 31-year-old two-way superstar’s workload is being monitored closely during the early stages of the season to avoid putting too much strain on him from a physical standpoint. He should be back in the lineup for Wednesday afternoon’s series finale.

Gallen is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday to confirm that he’s ready to roll, but all signs point to him taking the ball at Wrigley Field later this week. The 30-year-old left Saturday’s start against the Padres down in Mexico City with a shoulder contusion after being hit by a comebacker.

Jobe made it through his first bullpen session since undergoing Tommy John surgery last June. The 23-year-old former top pitching prospect is expected to return to Detroit’s rotation at some point in the second half.

According to multiple reports, the Red Sox are keeping their options open for later this week and want to have Bennett available in case he’s needed. The 25-year-old came over from the Nationals in the Luis Perales challenge trade back in the offseason and figures to arrive in Fenway Park at some point this summer.

Peña is expected to be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment later this week. The 28-year-old shortstop hit the injured list with a hamstring strain earlier this month. There’s a strong possibility he’s back in Houston’s lineup at some point in early May.

Cortes, who is hitting .538 (14-for-26) with three homers over his last seven games, takes a seat with lefty Kris Bubic on the hill in this one. He’ll continue to sit against most left-handed starters, which is going to happen a bunch over the next few days with the Royals and Guardians on tap for the rest of the week.
