Bryan Baker allowed one run with two strikeouts to blow the Rays’ lead in the eighth against the Pirates on Saturday.
Baker has been used as the Rays’ primary closer in the early going, collecting four saves. But he was summoned in the eighth on Saturday to face the heart of the Pirates order with a one-run lead. He surrendered the lead on a walk and two hits before completing the frame, charging him with a blown save. The 31-year-old right-hander has been otherwise solid and remains the reliever to roster in the Tampa Bay bullpen for saves. The game would get extended into the 13th inning, with Yoendrys Gómez picking up the save for the Rays.

Clay Holmes worked seven innings in Wednesday’s 3-2 win over the Twins.
Holmes received a no-decision, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings. He struck out three and walked one. It was a much-needed performance, with the victory snapping the team’s 12-game losing streak. Holmes’ ERA now sits at 2.10, and he’s allowed two runs or fewer in all five of his starts. He’s lined up to face the Nationals at home next time out.

Eric Samulski examines the ripple effects from Lucas Giolito signing with the Padres, sharing why the veteran starting pitcher shapes up as a fantasy streaming option.

Luke Weaver struck out three over 1 1/3 innings to earn the win on Wednesday versus the Twins.
The victory snapped the Mets’ 12-game losing streak. Weaver allowed two baserunners and needed 30 pitches to get through the outing. Devin Williams was passed over for the save after being used twice in the past three days. This was Weaver’s first multi-strikeout appearance of the year.
  • NYM Right Fielder #22
Juan Soto went 1-for-3 with a walk in his first game back from a strained calf on Wednesday.
Soto served as the Mets’ DH. Manager Carlos Mendoza said pregame that Soto would play the outfield on Thursday, but also that his workload would include days off.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #61
Connor Prielipp struck out six while allowing two runs on four hits over four innings in Wednesday’s big league debut versus the Mets.
He didn’t issue a walk while filling in for Mick Abel (elbow). Prielipp, a second-round pick from 2022, has been impressive as a pro but hasn’t always been healthy enough to take the field. The 25-year-old southpaw could draw a home start against the Mariners if he sticks in the Twins’ rotation.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Byron Buxton’s lone hit in Wednesday’s loss to the Mets was a home run.
It was a solo shot for Buxton, his fifth of the season. He’s scored 19 runs but has just seven RBI. He hasn’t attempted a steal yet either after going a perfect 24-for-24 on the bases last season. Health will remain the number one issue for Buxton going forward. When he’s on the field, he should produce.
  • ATL Center Fielder #23
Michael Harris II hit his fifth and sixth homers to drive in three runs in the Braves’ 8-6 takedown of the Nationals on Wednesday.
Harris didn’t have any luck while boasting strong exit velocity numbers the first couple of weeks, but he’s been on fire since returning from paternity leave, going 12-for-30 with four homers in nine games. That his approach still is far from great will likely cause him to remain streaky going forward, but he has a realistic chance of finishing as a top-10 fantasy outfielder this year.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #72
Didier Fuentes was lifted after allowing four runs in three innings Wednesday against the Nationals.
Fuentes struck out seven, but he also gave up seven hits, one being a three-run homer off the bat of Daylen Lile. The short start meant Martín Pérez, who could have started Thursday, was needed to pitch three innings behind him, and thus, both pitchers might lose their roster spots tomorrow with JR Ritchie and Carlos Carrasco coming up.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #75
Robert Suarez notched his second save Wednesday with a scoreless ninth versus the Nationals.
Suarez will be filling in for Raisel Iglesias for the next couple of weeks, but that just makes the eighth a little dicey for the Braves; they’ll still be just fine in the ninth. Suarez, who saved 40 games for the Padres last season, has allowed one run in 10 2/3 innings to begin the year.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #18
Zack Littell was lit up for eight runs — six earned — in six innings by the Braves on Wednesday.
Littell gave up four homers, bringing his season total to 11 in just 25 innings. Last year, he surrendered 36, the second highest total in the majors behind his current teammate Jake Irvin’s 38. The loss leaves him 0-3 with a 7.56 ERA, but he figures to stay in the rotation and face the Mets next week.
  • WSH Right Fielder #4
Daylen Lile went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer against the Braves on Wednesday.
After going 19 games without a homer to begin the season, Lile now has three in five games, pushing him up to .282/.333/.437 overall. It’d be nice if his elite speed made him a better basestealer — he’s 1-for-3 this year after going 8-for-14 as a rookie — but he’s thus far been useful in shallow leagues anyway.
