Willi Castro homered twice and drove in seven runs in a blowout win over the Athletics on Sunday.

Castro hit a grand slam in the eighth inning, and a three-run homer a few innings earlier. He also singled twice and improved his slash to .278/.350/.402 with five homers and 29 RBI on the campaign. Castro seems likely to be dealt before the deadline, but he’ll at least get a few more weeks to pile up the stats with the Rockies before that happens.

The superstar third baseman was held out of action on Wednesday due to soreness in his foot after fouling a ball off of it during Tuesday’s game. Brebbia elected free agency last weekend rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Albuquerque, but after exploring his options on the open market, the veteran right-hander decided that his best opportunity was to remain with the Rockies. The 36-year-old has compiled a 10.38 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 4 1/3 frames in his three outings with the big league club this season.

Gelof made a terrific sliding catch running down the third base line, but slid into the side wall as he did and came up hobbling. He tried to walk it off and remain in the game but ultimately the decision was made to pull him. Gelof will head for further evaluation. Expect the A’s to provide an update on his status after the game.
