Angels optioned RHP Brett Kerry to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Kerry returns to the minors after allowing two runs over four innings in relief against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday in his big-league debut. The 27-year-old’s departure allows Los Angeles to bring up a fresh arm ahead of Thursday’s series opener against the division-rival Athletics.

Angels activated OF Jorge Soler from the 10-day injured list.

Soler rejoins Los Angeles’ lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Orioles following a two-week absence recovering from a mild oblique strain. The 34-year-old slugging corner outfielder has delivered a pedestrian .220/.300/.402 slash line with nine homers and 33 RBI across 243 plate appearances over 58 games this season. He’s a fringe option in deeper mixed leagues as a cheap power source at this stage of his career, especially given his struggles to avoid the injured list over the past two seasons.
Sheehan is a buy-low option beyond surface numbers
Though Emmet Sheehan's surface numbers may not inspire much confidence, Eric Samulski believes saavy fantasy mangers could be on to something by making a move for him.

Angels designated INF Nick Madrigal for assignment.

Madrigal has been cut loose by Los Angeles with Jorge Soler returning from the injured list. The 29-year-old defensive specialist hit a respectable .273 (12-for-44) with two RBI and one steal during a 15-game stint with the Angels.

Angels 1B Trey Mancini elected free agency.

Mancini heads out to test the free agent waters instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake from the Angels. The 34-year-old journeyman was cut loose last week after going 4-for-13 with four RBI across five games with the Halos. It was his first stint back in the majors since 2023.

Rockies activated OF Mickey Moniak from the 10-day injured list.

Moniak returns to Colorado’s lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox at high-octane Coors Field following a one-month absence due to ankle tendinitis. The 28-year-old slugger has been a bit of a revelation for fantasy purposes this season, slashing a robust .280/.335/.607 with 12 homers, 28 RBI and one steal in 164 plate appearances over 43 games. He’s worthy of a roster spot, even in shallow fantasy formats, in any leagues where he may have been dropped.

Rockies optioned OF Sterlin Thompson to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Thompson retreats to the minors with Mickey Moniak returning from the injured list. The 24-year-old rookie has hit .232 (16-for-69) with two homers and 10 RBI in 27 games for the Rockies this season. He projects as more of a reserve outfielder than an everyday option at the highest level.

Max Scherzer (back) completed a bullpen session on Monday.

It’s an encouraging sign that Scherzer has resumed throwing without any issues after hitting the injured list with back spasms last week. The 41-year-old veteran will be brought along slowly to avoid any setbacks, but it doesn’t appear that he’s facing a lengthy absence. It’s possible he’s ready to return to Toronto’s rotation in late June or early July. He’s struggled so much this season that it’s nearly impossible to trust him as a streaming option in fantasy formats.

Corey Seager (concussion) is scheduled to take live batting practice on Tuesday.

The Rangers will reevaluate Seager after the session to determine his next steps. The 32-year-old shortstop is day-to-day as he works his way back from a concussion that put him on the shelf back on June 15. There isn’t a definitive return timeline, but it sounds possible he’s ready to return later this week, which would be a positive development for the Rangers and fantasy managers.

Francisco Lindor (calf) is scheduled to play another minor league rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed that Lindor will need at least one additional tune-up contest before returning to New York’s lineup, possibly as early as Wednesday’s game against the Cubs. The 32-year-old, who is working his way back from a calf strain, went 0-for-4 with a stolen base while playing the full game at shortstop on Sunday in his rehab debut. All signs still point to Lindor returning later this week.

Yimi García (elbow) has been shut down from throwing after experiencing renewed soreness.

García appeared to be on the precipice of finally rejoining Toronto’s high-leverage mix, but that’s on hold for now. There should be an update on his status at some point later this week. The 35-year-old has been brought along slowly while making his way back from last year’s elbow surgery. At this point it seems unlikely he’ll return until after next month’s All-Star break.

Eric Lauer will make a bulk relief appearance on Monday against the Twins.

Will Klein gets the ball as an opener for Los Angeles before turning things over to Lauer for a bulk outing. The 31-year-old lefty has delivered a respectable 3.22 ERA and 14/5 K/BB ratio across 22 1/3 innings since being acquired from the Blue Jays last month.
