QB Notes: Coming off the best fantasy performance by a quarterback since record-keeping began, Josh Allen now welcomes the highest game total of the season against a vulnerable pass defense. … Jayden Daniels went into the Commanders’ bye with his two highest fantasy point outputs of the season. He comes out facing a Saints squad that has lost its will to live. Healthy and rested, Daniels is locked and loaded for the fake playoffs. … The Giants are good at pressuring the quarterback but not much else. Lamar Jackson has remained one of the league’s best QBs at avoiding sacks. With the Ravens towering 16-point favorites against the G-Men, Jackson’s only concern is that New York is too easily bulldozed on the ground. … Joe Burrow leads the league in passing and touchdowns. The Titans hemorrhage QB fantasy points despite permitting the fewest aerial yards. The Bengals’ defense is bad enough that this one is unlikely to end early, allowing Burrow to get his numbers. … At home for another monstrous game and team total, Jared Goff will be facing a Bills defense that just got picked apart by Matthew Stafford. The upside is never quite there. Goff’s baseline is just so high in these situations (dome, home, game total).
Jalen Hurts has some problems on his hands, namely an unhappy No. 1 wideout. Hurts remains party to some of the league’s lowest pass rates, though this week he projects to actually have to throw vs. Pittsburgh’s strong defense. The reality is, even if Hurts is stuck in a rut as a passer, his rushing makes him impossible to bench for the fantasy postseason. … Tua Tagovailoa leads the league in passing since returning in Week 8. He has an extra game on players like Joe Burrow, for instance, but Tagovailoa has fully adapted to his new pitch-and-catch, point guard style. Speaking of Burrow, he’s the only other quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards in three straight starts this season. Peaking at the right time, Tagovailoa should figure out this thorny Texans matchup. … Coming off the best start of his career, Sam Darnold is facing a Bears defense that looked like it could be taking on major water after firing defensive play-caller Matt Eberflus. It helps that Darnold already diced up this D two weeks ago. Typically a floor play, Darnold has continued to raise his ceiling.
Jayden Daniels, unsurprisingly, leads the league in scrambles. No. 2? Brock Purdy. Everything Jimmy G is not, Purdy is willing to leave the pocket to make plays. That trait is going to be needed more than ever with the 49ers’ backfield somehow down yet another runner. Facing a Rams defense that just surrendered the literal best QB performance of all time, Purdy sneaks inside the top 12 for the quarterfinals. … The bye came at the wrong time for Bo Nix, who was playing his best football. He must contend with a Colts pass defense that was also peaking heading into the off week. Suddenly letting it rip as his rush attempts have declined, Nix is probably still a little riskier than his recent hot streak would suggest, but he has enough paths to ceiling that we rank him inside the top 12. … The closest thing we have to a “rich man’s Jameis Winston” this season, Baker Mayfield continues to throw first, think later. The Chargers are a poor Week 14 matchup, one that will probably have Mayfield relying on his floor rather than ceiling. Thankfully, the former has been stable, with Mayfield rarely seeing the bottom fall out.
After rushing for 50-plus yards four times in his first seven starts, Kyler Murray has done so zero times in his past six. That makes his passing struggles harder to swallow, though the Patriots’ “everything-funnel” defense does profile as something of a Week 15 get-right spot. The Murray rug pulls have been too frequent. Hopefully he’s finally ready to spike a week when it matters most. … Matthew Stafford is fourth in passing since he got his top-two wideouts back seven weeks ago. He’s tied for second in passing scores in that timespan. Awesome, underrated stuff, though short-week Thursday night opponent San Francisco is a run funnel. Stafford is still unlikely to sabotage your week if forced to start him in a one-QB league. … Only Anthony Richardson has a higher average intended air yards than Jameis Winston. Of course, only Ant, Kirk Cousins and Jordan Love have a higher interception percentage. Winston is averaging 43 attempts as starter and struggling to complete 60 percent of his passes. Rarely has a player gone this according to plan. If you can stomach the downside, Winston is a premier playoff streamer because of his aggressive ways.
If Ladd McConkey (knee, shoulder) can get healthy, Justin Herbert will be on the QB1 borderline for a Bucs smash spot. … The Packers are taking their lack of passing to surprising new depths. They had a -6 pass rate over expected for Week 14 against the Lions even though that’s the exact opposite way you usually approach Detroit. It came in Green Bay’s first loss in over a month, also to the Lions. We would like to think things will change against the Seahawks, but Seattle is stingy through the air and getting stingier. Jordan Love is always capable of spiking a week, but it’s not the most likely outcome for the fantasy quarters. … Patrick Mahomes’ mid-season momentum didn’t really go anywhere. He’s had back-to-back middling starts. If you’re stuck starting him, you can fall back on the Browns being a decent matchup with the Chiefs having a decent implied team total. … Anthony Richardson’s average intended air yards are 12.9, putting him 3.4 yards ahead of every other quarterback. Couple that with his increased rushing since returning from his benching, and you have a QB capable of sonic booms amidst the busts. The Broncos are a tough matchup, but Richardson is an obvious place to look if you are searching for upside above all else.
