NFL DFS Single Games: MNF Week 5

Nick Chubb

Nick Chubb

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Here we go with the Single Game NFL DFS slate for Monday Night Football of Week 5. Tonight’s matchup is between the 49ers and Browns, as San Francisco is listed as a 3.5 point home favorite with an over/under of 46.5.

We’ll highlight the top picks and best bargains to assemble a cash-inducing lineup. On top of that, the “additional notes” section will feature several tournament selections while adding context to the rest of this slate.

We will be producing these articles for Thursday, Sunday, and Monday primetime matchups every week, so be sure to bookmark the Rotoworld Daily page for those occasions - not to mention all the other fantastic daily fantasy content.

TOP PICKS

Nick Chubb - RB - Cleveland

Chubb is flirting with matchup-proof status after shredding Baltimore for 165 yards and three touchdowns last week. Even though this draw doesn’t look great on paper, Chubb still garners Captain/MVP consideration while seeing 25+ touches per contest. The Browns will continue to lean on their workhorse running back, and he’s the safest bet in terms of volume, floor, and ceiling in this single game slate.

Odell Beckham Jr. - WR - Cleveland

The Cleveland offense is extremely concentrated towards Chubb and Beckham, making them solid plays alongside each other in the same lineup. Beckham had a rough week against Baltimore last Sunday, and he still hasn’t quite gotten on the same page with QB Baker Mayfield - outside of a long catch-and-run screen against the Jets. “OBJ” should see double-digit targets, and he could find himself in a winnable matchup against CB Emmanuel Moseley, who was an undrafted free agent in 2018.

BEST BARGAINS

Antonio Callaway - WR - Cleveland

Callaway is a true wild card in this slate. He has plenty of speed to rip off a long touchdown, and that should pique the interest of DFS enthusiasts, especially considering the $7,500 price tag on FanDuel. You can play him through all formats over there, but the $6,200 salary on DraftKings makes him more of a tournament pivot away from Jarvis Landry, Matt Breida, and company. The range of outcomes is extremely wide with Callaway making his season debut tonight, but the upside is too significant to pass - especially on sites where the salary is modest.

Dante Pettis - WR - San Francisco

Pettis is in a similar boat as Callaway, as he’s a talented receiver with playmaking ability to help you win a large-field tournament. There’s also a decent chance he’ll finish with an underwhelming 2-24 line. Pettis has been dealing with injuries all season, but he’s coming off a 4-20-1 line with five targets in Week 3. The 49ers didn’t play last week, giving him an extra week to get healthy. Pettis is dirt-cheap on both DFS sites, and he’s one of my preferred “per dollar” choices from San Francisco’s roulette wheel of a receiving corps.

Robbie Gould / Austin Seibert - better on DK

I’ve alluded to this several times so far, but tonight’s slate is difficult to project with so many moving parts. Of the skill position players, Chubb and Beckham are the only guys with established workloads to take comfort in. While that presents exciting opportunities in tournaments, it’s also frustrating from a cash game standpoint. In that case, it makes sense to look towards Gould or Seibert (in that order) for potential double-digit fantasy performances. That especially holds true on DraftKings, where both kickers are substantially cheaper than the Matt Breida and Jarvis Landry wave.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Jimmy Garoppolo (QB - SF) and Baker Mayfield (QB - CLE) have MVP/Captain potential in their own right. I’m sticking with Chubb as the leader in cash games, but building stacks from both quarterbacks appears to be an essential tournament strategy. From here, it’s all about pushing the right buttons at receiver. Beckham, Callaway, and Landry are the best options for Mayfield, while George Kittle (TE - SF), Pettis, and Deebo Samuel (WR - SF) warrant attention on the other side. Even though the matchup is mediocre, Kittle deserves cash game looks as San Francisco’s top option.

Ricky Seals-Jones (TE - CLE) produced a 3-82-1 line last week, but he’s still splitting snaps with Demetrius Harris (TE - CLE). Neither player warrants a look in cash games, as they can be considered tournament bargains when building several lineups in a large-field contest.

As if there weren’t enough decision points for a single game slate, we need to sort through San Francisco’s running back situation as well. It looks like Tevin Coleman (RB - SF) will play, adding another wrinkle to the volume/production of Matt Breida (RB - SF) and Jeff Wilson Jr. (RB - SF). Wilson carries value as the preferred goal-line back who has punched in four touchdowns over the past two weeks. Meanwhile, Breida 132 and 88 yards respectively over that timeframe, and he holds the most upside of this backfield ... Raheem Mostert (RB - SF) was a fantasy hero with 22.6 fantasy points in Week 2, but he could be phased out of the gameplan with Coleman likely back in action … The unpredictability of this situation is causing me to look elsewhere for cash games. However, mixing and matching Coleman/Wilson/Breida in tournaments is a strategy I’ll enact in tournaments. Coleman may have an extremely low ownership rate due to his questionable status (even though it seems likely he’ll play).
