Steelers HC Mike McCarthy told reporters WR DK Metcalf and WR Michael Pittman won’t practice this week.

Both receivers are set to miss the Steelers’ upcoming preseason game against the Jets with undisclosed injuries. Without both starting wide receivers, you can expect Aaron Rodgers to sit out as well. Without much practice time remaining, the next time we see the Steelers’ starting offense very well may be in the regular season.

Pittman exited Saturday’s practice with an apparent leg injury and was not on the field for Monday’s session. Speaking with the media, head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Pittman was injured on Saturday but didn’t discuss how long he may be out. For now, we’ll assume this is something minor, but hopefully we’ll have more details to provide soon.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #11
Pittman was seen talking to trainers after leaving the field. They were seemingly focused on his right leg. Pittman has a chance to lead the team in targets, operating as a short-to-intermediate threat while WR DK Metcalf frequently stretches the field. The Steelers have the day off on Sunday and are scheduled to resume practicing on Monday. If he’s back in action then, this is likely a non-issue.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #4
The news comes from Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy’s office, and notes that “the fan did not appear to be injured, nor did he seek medical attention at the game.” Metcalf already served a two-game suspension issued by the league, and the Steelers did not void Metcalf’s financial guarantees, so there is no reason to expect further punishment from the NFL. The fan in question still has a $100 million civil suit against Metcalf, which remains ongoing, but we see no reason to believe that it will impact his fantasy stock negatively at this time.

Boston, who made a top-30 visit with the 49ers in late March, had 62 receptions for 881 receiving yards (14.2 yards per catch) and was tied for ninth in the FBS with 11 receiving touchdowns in his final collegiate season. Boston would make sense for the wideout-needy Steelers, who recently acquired Michael Pittman Jr. from the Colts. Alongside Pittman and DK Metcalf, Boston would create a big-bodied trio of receivers for Aaron Rodgers, who is expected to return for a second season under center for Pittsburgh. The Steelers hold the 21st pick in the 2026 draft.
  • PIT Wide Receiver
This of course assumes Rodgers, 42, will return for another season under center for the Steelers, now coached by Rodgers’ former Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy. The Steelers acquired Pittman from the Colts on Monday. Rodgers, DeFabo said, “seems to prefer veterans who understand the nuances of route running, how to read coverages and what it takes to prepare for an opponent. Pittman, a solid possession receiver who slots in as a No. 2 behind [DK] Metcalf, checks a lot of those boxes.” Pittman, entering his age-29 season, last season had a career low yards after the catch per reception, reeling in 80 balls on 110 targets as Alec Pierce emerged as Indy’s No. 1 wideout. If the Steelers offense is pass heavy enough Pittman could hold some value in deeper PPR formats in 2026.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #11
Aaron Rodgers’ new No. 2 receiver figures to fit in well in Mike McCarthy’s West Coast system. Because we’re expecting the Steelers to throw less in 2026 than the Colts did, Pittman Jr. probably profiles best as a WR4 going forward. It’s still a huge upgrade for the Steelers on a position where they were desperately trying to find bodies that Rodgers approved of towards the end of 2025. Adam Schefter reports the Steelers will sign Pittman Jr. to a three-year, $59 million extension as part of the trade. The $24 million cap savings for the Colts are the main benefit — it also helps solidify Alec Pierce as the team’s No. 1 receiver and elevates Josh Downs into a bigger role in 2026.
  • IND Wide Receiver #11
Pittman Jr’s return to the Colts seemed to hinge on Alec Pierce leaving in free agency. With that cap space now thoroughly allocated, it would not be a surprised if Pittman was traded or released in the coming hours or days. It should be noted Chris Ballard did not seem to give an inch on the idea of keeping Pittman when asked about it at the combine, but his cap hit will almost assuredly have to come down if he’s going to stay in Indianapolis.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #22
Boyd predicts (but doesn’t report) that Pierce will leave in free agency, and projects a quick pivot that would include Michael Pittman staying with the team and the Colts chasing another receiver to replace Pierce outside. Shaheed does fit the need for speed even if he doesn’t exactly have the contested-catch ability that Pierce leads with. Shaheed has already been linked to the Commanders, Bills, and Raiders this offseason — though the Bills have since traded for DJ Moore.
  • IND Wide Receiver #11
Ballard would almost certainly have to restructure Pittman’s contract to retain both Daniel Jones and Alec Pierce. Entering his age-29 season, there was some beat writer smoke around the Colts parting ways with Pittman — it does seem like Ballard would rather hang on to him than not. If the Colts run back last year’s receiver room, Pittman will likely be on the WR3 line in 2026.
  • IND Wide Receiver #11
Pittman “basically admitted after the Colts’ regular-season finale that he might have played his last game for the franchise.” The franchise stalwart has a $29 million cap hit in 2026 and would free up $24 million for the Colts if he were cut. Entering his age-29 season, it’s possible that Pittman generates some low-end trade interest ahead of free agency if he’s willing to restructure his contract for other teams. It’s also possible the Colts simply cut him or restructure him and keep him.

Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said there’s no timeline for James Conner (ankle) to return to 11-on-11 work.

It doesn’t sound like Conner has a great chance of being available for Week 1, and if he’s not yet able to fully practice it’s certainly on the table for Conner to start the year on injured reserve or the reserve/PUP list. Conner took a paycut this offseason and is due $2.35 million guaranteed in 2026 after suffering a season-ending injury in Week 3 last year.

Cardinals placed OG Chase Bisontis (knee) on season-ending injured reserve.

He tore his MCL against the Raiders on Thursday night in the team’s first preseason game. "(Chase) will be out for a good amount of time, if not the whole year,” Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said. “Sucks for him. Always think about the player first. Sucks for the Cardinals too, He’s a good player but more importantly you hate it for the player.” The second-round pick will rehab and get ready for a return in 2027.

Bears coach Ben Johnson said Kyler Gordon (calf) has a timeline to return of “unknown.”

It certainly looks like Gordon will hit reserve/PUP or injured reserve before the start of the season while he deals with this long-term calf injury. This makes both the Bears coach and GM telling you they’re frustrated with the situation.

Malachi Fields caught 3-of-3 targets for 34 yards and a touchdown in the first week of the preseason against the Vikings.

It’s a game that The Athletic’s Dan Duggan says “strengthened his push for the No. 2 receiver job.” His touchdown pass was from Jaxson Dart, but he was one of several receivers getting first-team snaps. It’s hard to believe Fields will be relevant early in 12-team redraft leagues unless Malik Nabers suffers a setback, but he’s squarely on the fantasy radar after a big camp.

Jonathon Brooks rushed three times for five yards, adding a nine-yard catch, in Carolina’s preseason opener against the Bills.

It was his first game action in 20 months. The Panthers’ offense, playing their starters three series, looked dead on arrival against the Bills on Saturday. But Brooks did start with Chuba Hubbard sidelined, validating the training camp drumbeat that he’d be in the mix early. He’s at least an interesting bench option in standard leagues at this point, and could perhaps turn into more.

Camden Brown caught 3-of-3 targets for 62 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s preseason win over the Seahawks.

Brown made an impact in his exhibition debut, and he connected with Sam Howell on a 39-year touchdown in the second quarter. His second score was far shorter but even more impressive; a one-handed stab in the back of the end zone. There’s a long way to go and Brown is anything but a lock to make the roster, but he’s been one of the stars of training camp, and he showed why Saturday evening. At the very least, he’s worth monitoring.

Jalen Milroe completed 5-of-8 passes for 36 yards in Saturday’s preseason game against the Cowboys while adding 36 yards on five carries.

Milroe and Drew Lock split time in the first game of the preseason, and Lock was much more effective with a touchdown and 40 yards on 9-of-13 passing. That’s more insult to Milroe than compliment to Lock, to be fair. The second-year signal-caller showed off his upper-echelon speed, but held onto the ball too long, and struggled to get the ball down field. Milroe would be a tantalizing fantasy play because of his ability to scramble, but just isn’t a good enough passer to believe that’s going to come to fruition.

Ja’Kobi Lane caught 3-of-3 targets for 38 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s preseason contest against the Eagles.

Lane has impressed in camp, and he snagged a 16-yard touchdown from fellow rookie Joe Fagnano for his first score of the season. The 80th pick of last year’s draft, Lane’s 6-foot-4 frame makes him a potential threat inside the 20, and it appears he’s going to get a chance to win the No. 3 receiving job. At the very least, Lane is worth monitoring in deeper formats.

Eli Stowers caught all three targets for 12 yards in Saturday’s preseason game against the Ravens.

Stowers was somewhat involved in the first half but the rookie tight end had a long gain of just six yards in the first exhibition game of the season. The 23-year-old has significant long-term upside because of his athleticism, but it’s very clear — at least early on — that Stowers has work to do before he’s a fantasy option in 2026.

Saints HC Kellen Moore said the team is “still in collection mode” regarding Jordyn Tyson’s hamstring injury

This comes a day after we learned that Tyson is seeking multiple opinions on the hamstring injury he suffered on Thursday. At some point, the Saints will have collected enough information to feel comfortable telling us about Tyson’s injury, but for now, we will continue to wait. The longer this goes on, the worse the news will feel. Hopefully this is something that will only sideline Tyson for a few weeks, but given his history of hamstring injuries, which slowed him during the pre-draft process, it wouldn’t be surprising if his absence extended into the regular season. Hopefully we’ll have a clear answer on his status soon.
