Buccaneers agreed to terms with RB Sean Tucker on a one-year, $2.5 million contract.

The contract comes fully guaranteed as Tucker gets the stability he was looking for this offseason after entering 2026 on a restricted free agent tender of $3.52 million. Tucker presumably sits third on the depth chart at running back for the Buccaneers after the addition of Kenny Gainwell, a situation he has grown accustomed to during his time in Tampa. The pay cut likely stands as a boost to starter Bucky Irving after numerous reports this offseason called for a potential three-way timeshare in the backfield, something that now appears less likely given current circumstances.
Athletes' mental health should be taken seriously
Paul Pabst and Andrew Perloff react to the fallout of Lane Johnson's retirement, including Stephen A. Smith's 'cheap shot' at Johnson's abrupt retirement for his mental wellbeing.

Bucs OC Zac Robinson talked about getting Tucker the ball more earlier this week. Tucker entered this game with zero touches on offense. Though his role was limited, Robinson subbed him in where it counts the most and Tucker punched in a goal line score in the first half. He still doesn’t have much standalone fantasy value, but Tucker reclaiming the goal line role he had last year would be brutal for Bucky Irving’s fantasy outlook. Tucker is, at best, a touchdown-based RB5 for Week 5 versus Dallas.

The Buccaneers are 0-3, so if trailing game scripts aren’t the ideal setup for a receiving specialist, we aren’t sure what is. Robinson said he would like to get Gainwell more involved, but also added that Gainwell has to earn those reps by being more productive. Robinson said he also wants to get RB3 Sean Tucker more involved during the same presser. It sounds like this backfield still belongs to starting RB Bucky Irving, who is dealing with a glute injury, but changes are at least being considered.

Robinson described Tucker as being “special with the ball in his hands,” and said that it’s on the coaching staff to find spots to mix him in. Whether this impacts starting RB Bucky Irving basically comes down to how and when — and if — the Buccaneers get Tucker involved. Taking a few snaps away from RB2 Kenneth Gainwell would be no big deal. Utilizing Tucker in the red zone would be consequential for Irving. Hopefully, Robinson provides more insight before his team’s Week 4 game against the Packers. Stay tuned.

Tucker was out last week with the hamstring issue. His return to the Tampa lineup could take a few touches away from Bucky Irving and/or Kenneth Gainwell. Last week against the Bengals, Irving out-carried Gainwell 8-5 and led the backfield with a 59 percent route share. Bucs declared CB Jacob Parrish, CB Ayden Garnes, DL Elijah Simmons, DL DeMonta Capehart, OL Billy Schrauth, and OL Luke Haggard inactive for Week 2.

The Buccaneers should have their RB3 on hand against the Browns this weekend, though Tucker is not expected to contribute in a fantasy-relevant manner. He is just a deep-league bench stash at this time.
  • TB Running Back #44
Tucker’s expected absence is a nice little boost for Bucky Irving as he looks to shore up his RB2 value following a disastrous 2025. Kenneth Gainwell is unlikely to battle Iriving for goal-line handles. Seeing as Tucker received a “doubtful” tag for Week 1, he’s likely on the wrong side of questionable for Week 2, but his return will at least be a possibility.

In addition to McMillan, the Buccaneers are also listing RB Sean Tucker (hamstring) as doubtful, putting both players on the wrong side of being active for Week 1. McMillan was able to log a limited week of practice, so hopefully he’ll have a chance to suit up in Week 2 when the Buccaneers take on the Browns. Rookie WR Ted Hurst should make for an interesting dart throw in DFS as he looks to be in line for more work with McMillan sidelined.

The Buccaneers’ No. 3 running back is only a bench stash at this time, but he could take on a few touches if he is active against the Bengals this weekend. He should be considered questionable to play at this time.
  • TB Running Back #44
Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles said earlier this week that Tucker will be a game-time decision for Week 1 against the Bengals. His continued absence from practice is discouraging, but it bodes well for RB Bucky Irving and RB Kenneth Gainwell. Tucker is not expected to be a high-volume offensive contributor at this point, but adding even a couple of touches to each player’s workload is helpful
  • TB Running Back #44
Bowles didn’t disclose what Tucker is dealing with because he doesn’t have to do that until Wednesday, when the team releases its first injury report. That said, it sounds like Tucker is facing an uphill battle to be ready for Week 1, and we know he was sidelined for Monday’s practice. His absence isn’t expected to have much of a fantasy impact, as Tucker is expected to serve as the third RB for the Bucs behind both Bucky Irving and Kenneth Gainwell.

Tee Higgins (adductor/neck) was not seen practicing on Thursday.

Higgins is sporting a T-shirt and shorts at today’s practice. We expect to see him listed as a non-participant at the end of the day. Consecutive absences put him on the wrong side of questionable for the Bengals’ Week 5 game against the Dolphins, though he still has at least a small chance of turning things around tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Malik Nabers (knee) resumed practicing on Thursday.

Nabers is currently going through route running drills with his position group, putting him on track to play in Week 5 against the Commanders. Nabers sat out yesterday, citing extra soreness in his surgically repaired knee, but told ESPN’s Jordan Raanan that he usually feels better as the week progresses. A WR1 finish is in play this week, assuming he is active.

Ja’Marr Chase (concussion) is present and wearing pads at practice on Thursday.

It looks like Chase will practice in some capacity today. He made the long walk to the Bengals’ practice field, fully suited up in pads, carrying his helmet. Given the NFL’s five-phase concussion protocol, we expect to see him listed as a limited participant today, but we will provide an update if he upgrades to full participation. Chase has a chance to play in Week 5 against the Dolphins.

Lamar Jackson (ankle) was not seen practicing on Thursday.

Jackson began the week on the wrong side of questionable after spraining his ankle in Week 4 against the Titans. Ravens coach Jesse Minter has already said that Jackson doesn’t need to practice “much” in order to play. While some sort of limited session is still possible for today, it is unlikely, with Jackson skipping warmups. If he can get in a limited session tomorrow, he has a chance to play. Stay tuned.

The Washington Post’s Tashan Reed reports Terry McLaurin (hamstring) was not on the field for the start of Thursday’s practice.

McLaurin could technically return later in the session and go down as a limited participant, but we highly doubt that will happen. He will be listed as a DNP for the second day in a row, making it extremely unlikely he is available for Week 5. After facing the Giants this week, the Commanders get a slightly longer rest period before taking on the 49ers on Monday in Week 6. If they are worried about McLaurin re-aggravating the issue, they get their bye the following week, which would give him plenty of time to recover. For now, Stefon Diggs and Antonio Williams will lead the team’s receiver room.

Stefon Diggs (hamstring) returned to practice on Thursday.

Diggs was held out of Wednesday’s session because of the hamstring issue. Even a limited practice today puts him on track to suit up on Sunday. Terry McLaurin, on the other hand, looks likely to miss another week with a hamstring injury of his own. That will put Diggs in the WR1 seat for Week 5 against the Giants. Antonio Williams will continue to operate as the team’s No. 2 receiver.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Broncos are “taking a more collaborative play-calling approach this week with HC Sean Payton having an increased role in the process.”

That role increase is, of course, Payton’s way of saying he is taking back play-calling duties from OC Davis Webb. Schefter tried to cushion the blow by saying Webb will still have a “significant game-planning and game-day role.” While Schefter didn’t outright say that Payton is now the play-caller, PFT’s Mike Florio reported this morning that Webb is no longer on the headset. It’s one of the most predictable outcomes of the season. Payton is a legendary coach known for his offensive genius. He was always going to take back the play-calling gig the moment things went south, though we doubt he expected it to happen this quickly. The Broncos are a dismal 27th in points per game. They rank slightly better in EPA per play at 21st, but that’s still a disappointing start for this offense.

Steelers coach Mike McCarthy said Michael Pittman re-aggravated his foot injury and will miss multiple weeks.

McCarthy told reporters the team is evaluating Pittman’s roster spot, meaning they could place him on injured reserve. He would miss at least four weeks while on IR. Pittman tried to play through the foot injury but only made it two weeks before aggravating the issue. He was spotted using a scooter to support his foot in the locker room on Wednesday. We suspect the Steelers will place him on IR to give Pittman enough time to fully recover. Germie Bernard will now operate as the team’s permanent WR3, with Roman Wilson taking on more work as the clear No. 2 receiver. Both players will be decent FLEX options for Week 5.

Commanders offensive coordinator David Blough said Jayden Daniels is a “full go” when asked if his elbow injury would create any limitations in the game plan.

Daniels is practicing in full and is expected to return to the lineup this week. He has suffered the same elbow dislocation twice in the past year, but his game-changing running ability is a big part of what makes Daniels a potential superstar quarterback. Blough might be more tactile with how he calls quarterback runs, but they will still be in the playbook this week. Daniels will be a low-end QB1 once he is officially cleared to play.

The Athletic’s Dan Wiederer reports Caleb Williams has looked “spry and comfortable taking drops, planting, slinging it around.”

Williams has already been ruled out for Week 5, but Wiederer notes that he is “progressing notably with his on-field recovery steps.” He added that the Bears having a Thursday game in Week 7 complicates things slightly. If Williams returns in Week 6, he will have an unusually short turnaround to his next game. That’s a bridge the Bears will potentially have to cross next week. For now. Tyson Bagent will draw the start again on Sunday. Ben Johnson has made magic with both of his backups so far. We fully expect the offense to survive one more week without Williams under center.
