Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said “I think there’s a real possibility” that Puka Nacua avoids any discipline this season.

This, of course, is in reference to the civil lawsuit that was filed against Nacua that alleges he bit a woman and made an “unprovoked antisemitic sentiment.” The Rams receiver avoided being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list and will travel with the team to Australia to play in their season opener against the 49ers. Nacua has been dealing with a psoas injury since August, but head coach Sean McVay said they expect him to play in Week 1. Nacua profiles as a high-end WR1 against a familiar foe in the Niners.
Shanahan ‘in his bag’ to keep 49ers undefeated
Mike Florio and Chris Simms praise Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers’ ability to never fold while working through a plethora of injuries, but question Denver’s “spuddering” offense.

Nacua’s rushing score came on a second quarter end-around. Out there for the first time since Week 1, Nacua did what he always seems to do when active and post a dominant statline. We say “active” rather than “healthy,” as FOX’s Erin Andrews confirmed during the broadcast Nacua is dealing with some sort of sports-hernia situation. That could make him something of a week-to-week proposition but hopefully the superstar wideout has found some way to manage the pain for the rest of the season. He has a Week 5 smash spot in the Bills’ shootout-prone defense. He will also have an extra day to get healthy with the game taking place on Monday Night Football.

Andrews broke the news while reporting from the sideline of the Rams’ Week 4 game against the Eagles. Signs have been pointing to this type of injury for a while now, with the Rams referring to Nacua’s nagging injury as both a hip and groin issue. Just over two minutes remain in the third quarter, and Nacua has only come off the field for a few plays thus far. It appears as though the team has handled the injury well, though one imagines re-injury risk is still a factor. That said, he is a WR1 whenever he is active.

Looks like we’ve got ourselves an old-fashioned source-off here. Schefter says Nacua won’t be limited, while The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero said over the weekend that Nacua may be on “a stricter snap count than usual.” Even if his snaps are cut back, Nacua is one of the best per-route receivers in the NFL. He will get by for fantasy managers in whatever role the Rams give him. He is, at worst, a low-end WR1 for Week 4.

Rams HC Sean McVay said Nacua, who has been dealing with a groin injury, is good to go after getting a full practice in on Friday. The coach also noted that they’re still working through Nacua’s snap count and now Pelissero reports that it could be stricter than usual. Fantasy managers should still treat Nacua as a high-end WR1 even in a difficult matchup against the Eagles in Week 4.

Nacua will return after getting in a Friday full practice and should be a WR1 play, even against the Eagles’ vaunted secondary. McVay noted that they are still working through how they will navigate his snap count, so Davante Adams should remain near the WR1 line this week as they reintegrate Nacua. But nobody is sitting Puka Nacua in a standard league.

Scheelhaase also said that Nacua “twisted” to catch a pass thrown behind him yesterday, which the offensive coordinator took as a good sign. Nacua is on track to face the Eagles in Week 4. As long as he gets through the practice week without suffering a setback, Nacua is an elite WR1 this week.
  • LA Wide Receiver #12
McVay also said that Nacua will be limited at today’s practice. Nacua has not played since injuring his groin in Week 1 against the 49ers. If active in Week 4, he will be a no-brainer WR1, though it would be great to see him log two full practice sessions over the next two days. The Rams’ pass-catching corps has dealt with an influx of injuries in recent weeks. Getting their star player back would be huge.

We continue to get very little concrete news from McVay and the Rams regarding the injury, expected status, or recovery timeline for star wide receiver Puka Nacua. The most conclusive information given the previous two weeks is that the groin injury Nacua is dealing with is not related to the psoas injury he dealt with this offseason, although some have speculated that the verbiage used to describe the injury sounded like a sports hernia. Even that is pure speculation. Fantasy managers are left waiting in the holding pattern for more concrete news from their first-round fantasy selection. Davante Adams would clearly be in line to benefit from another absence after setting a career-high in receiving yards in consecutive games the previous two weeks.

Nacua came into the weekend listed as doubtful but was seen working out before the game to see if he would be able to go. He’ll ultimately be held out for the second consecutive game as the Rams look to improve to 2-1. Davante Adams vaults into the top-tier WR1 range in Nacua’s absence. Also inactive for the Rams are DB Kam Kinchens, WR CJ Daniels, WR Tutu Atwell, QB Ty Simpson, S Maximus Pulley, and OL Bill Murray

Schefter noted that the team doesn’t believe he will need surgery, but it could be an option if things don’t improve. The team is listing it as a hip injury, but the main issue has been a groin injury which would presumably require core muscle surgery. That would sideline him for multiple months. Schefter added that Nacua could return as soon as Week 4 if he does improve. Nacua did not practice once this week before being listed as doubtful versus Denver. Nacua’s short and long-term status hangs in the balance right now. It sounds like we’ll know pretty soon whether this is a lost season or not.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports 49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk is believed to have suffered a sprained knee in Week 4’s win over the Broncos.

This would be very good news for Juszczyk, as the injury appeared far worse in real time. According to Rap, the team believes Juszczyk’s ACL is believed to be intact, but he will undergo an MRI to confirm. The veteran fullback is still likely looking at a multi-week absence, which could impact Christian McCaffrey’s effectiveness in the running game, but it sounds like he avoided the worst here.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Patrick Surtain’s ankle injury is not believed to be season-ending.

According to Rapoport, there are no longer any concerns that this is an Achilles injury for Surtain, who left Week 4’s game against the 49ers with a non-contact injury. Surtain could be looking at a multi-week absence and will undergo an MRI soon to confirm the severity of his injury, but it sounds like he avoided anything too serious. In addition to Surtain, the Broncos are also evaluating the status of CB Riley Moss, who is dealing with a rib injury.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) is “weeks away from return.”

The Saints’ offense has managed just fine without Tyson, but it doesn’t sound like it will get a boost from the rookie first-rounder any time soon. According to Schefter, Tyson is “making progress and feeling good,” but the earliest we may see him is Week 7. That said, due to the Saints playing Week 7 in Paris, Schefter also notes that “the most logical” return date for Tyson could be Week 9 after the team’s bye week. Fantasy managers stashing Tyson will need to continue doing so for the next several weeks, and even when he’s active, it could take a few games for him to see a full assortment of snaps. We can expect Devaughn Vele to continue operating as the Saints’ WR2 behind Chris Olave until Tyson returns.

George Holani rushed seven times for 18 yards in the Seahawks Week 4 win over the Chargers, adding one reception for two additional yards.

In the first week without Jadarian Price, Holani operated as a lightly used backup behind Emanuel Wilson, who rushed for 21-81-1, and added another 3-39-1 through the air on four targets. Any hope that Holani could see an increased workload sans Price needs to be put on hold for now. He can be left on fantasy benches in Week 5 when the Seahawks host the 49ers.

Christian McCaffrey had 15 rushes for 52 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers’ Week 4 win against the Broncos, adding three catches for 18 yards.

Denver’s defense focused on slowing down McCaffrey and the Niners’ run game. That forced Brock Purdy and the offense into a more pass-heavy approach. CMC surprisingly was not all that involved in the passing attack against a Broncos defense that has been generous to pass catchers out of the backfield this season. He saved his fantasy day with a goal line plunge in the second half. Kaelon Black, meanwhile, saw six carries on the day. McCaffrey will be a top-5 option in Week 5 against the Seahawks.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Lamar Jackson will have an MRI on his ankle Monday.

It was reported after Sunday’s win over the Titans that Jackson was “believed to be day-to-day” after he left the game with what appeared to be a relatively minor ankle injury. Jackson was spotted in a walking boot, which has raised a bit more concern for his Week 5 availability, but hopefully the MRI doesn’t reveal anything too severe. Jackson and the Ravens are set to take on the Falcons on Sunday night, which could make for a difficult situation for fantasy managers. We’ll surely receive countless updates on his status throughout the week, but fantasy managers should have a backup plan in place in the event he enters the weekend with a questionable designation. If he’s unable to play, Tyler Huntley would draw his first start of the season.

John Metchie caught 3-of-5 targets for 37 yards in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions.

Metchie operated as the WR2 in the absence of both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette but was unable to return any fantasy utility on a night second-year receiver Tetairoa McMillan set new career highs in both receptions and yardage. Fantasy managers that were coaxed into adding Metchie through the injuries in Carolina can safely return him to the waiver from whence he came.

Darren Waller caught 3-of-6 targets for 36 yards in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions.

Waller saw minimal involvement as quarterback Bryce Young leaned into his top option through the air, feeding Tetairoa McMillan 16 targets on 41 pass attempts in the absence of both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette. Fantasy managers that scooped Waller off of waivers following his two-touchdown game in Week 2 are surely left disappointed in the recent returns, making Waller a potential drop candidate as the Panthers head to their bye.

Tetairoa McMillan caught 14-of-16 targets for 192 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions.

McMillan set career highs in both receptions and yardage in the first half with nine catches for 147 yards before the break. He operated as the clear alpha in a pass attack without both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, routinely dusting everyone the Lions had at their disposal in an injury-ravaged secondary. While the receiving line surely turns heads, fantasy managers were left even more ecstatic about the way in which he was utilized, with the second-year receiver catching six passes for 94 yards and both touchdowns while aligned in the slot. Offensive coordinator Brad Idzik is providing structure, sequencing, and situational tendencies unlike anything fans had grown accustomed to when head coach Dave Canales was helming the offense, resulting in quarterback Bryce Young leading the league in passing while averaging more than 30 points per game through the first month of play. McMillan’s ceiling remains sky-high as a legitimate WR1 when the Panthers square off against the Eagles fin Week 6 following their bye.
